Hooked up my brothers 360 elite and cannot seem to get it to properly display 1080p. It will do all other settings and if I tell it to detect the best resolution it defaults at 1080i. I know his TV is 1080p and I have the same TV (in a smaller size) so I knw it will take the 1080p signal. I tried 2 different cables and 2 different HDMI inputs with same results. If you set it on 1080p it displays a screwed up picture but is slightly legible and multiplied 3 times over the screen.
Any ideas? Anyone know if they have issues or if the chip or whatever for video output is fried? I am going to hook his system up to a friends TV via HDMI at 1080p for my final test on Sunday but was wondering if anyone knew anything first? Thanks in advance. |

Definitely hook it up to another tv. I don't think it's fried because if it was the 1080i wouldn't display either. And usually if a tv doesn't support a resolution the screen will just turn black. You've obviously gone into the settings so your doing everything right. I think the best thing to do is try another tv.
Hope it works itself out. |

I have officially decided that it is the TV.
I tried the 360 on another 1080p TV and had no issues. Tried 2 different HDMI cables and 2 different HDMI inputs on his TV and 1080p was displayed improperly. His TV is 1080p but there must be an issue. Well, at least we have an answer. This sucks because I finally got him into bluray and now I am almost certain bluray won't even display on his set at 1080p. Sadface indeed. |

I have a 1080p tv but still have my 360 set to 720p since 99% of games are native 720p or lower.

He has a Mitsubishi WD-73732. I thought that there may be some magical option as well but have the 65" of the TV so I am very familiar with it.
I ended up setting it on 1080i because that is the highest that his TV seems to like now. Just a shame that he doesn't seem to have the ability to use the TV to it's fullest extent or see the full potential of Bluray. |

While I'm not familiar with this TV in particular, it is possible that it only accepts a 1080p signal, but cannot actually display 1080 progressively scanned lines of resolution. Make sure that it's actually a 1080p set, instead of simply having 1080p inputs.
You'd probably be better off setting the 360 to 720p (assuming the TV can display 720 lines of resolution), rather than 1080i. As mentioned earlier, most 360 titles display at 720p. That, and 720p is technically the better resolution (ever notice that all 720p displays can produce a 1080i picture but 1080i displays actually top out at 1080i). That's because at 720p, you're seeing 720 lines of picture information in each frame, while at 1080i, you're only getting half the picture info (540 lines per frame). So you basically have... 720p: 720 lines consisting of the entire frame 1080i: 540 lines of picture info (with flicker) Last edited by OG Pooh; 09-14-2010 at 06:23 PM. |
