Link http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Tril...blurayforum-20
Does amazon know something that we don't? Would they put this page up if not?

Same here. However, the responses below the sale make the advertisement appear to be a few months old.

i dunno it seems to me amazon has pages up for movies that dont come out for years...they put pages up for titles that a lot of people are interested in. doesnt mean anythings happening.

they have a hd-dvd lord of the rings trilogy page too.

I cant wait!
Or actually I could wait. As long as they make an excellent film-bluray transfer. Some movies look horribly transferred.

Well, um, as a matter of fact, yes they would:

Amazon dates back to an ancient and archaic practice during the late 90's, in which online sites would collect "petitions" for imaginary requested DVD titles, which they claimed would show studios how many people wanted them on disk--And then collect e-mail addresses (a hot commodity even back then, with the birth of Spam) for customers who wanted to be "notified" when/if those titles were released, regardless of how many years went by.
Whether studios ever actually saw those "petition" results or not depended on the site, but fact remains, Amazon is a very, very old website.

(Boy, first the '97-'99 DVD-discussion thread, and now this...
It's been a historical-parallel nostalgia blast on the forums today. )

it took almost 15 years for it to be released on DVD. I doubt George lucas is planning to release it anytime soon on BD. but the flick would definitely look great. Imagine Yoda on BD, its.............its.......its.........B......E.... ....A.....U.....TIFUL.

Yeah, I remember signing up for the DVD release notification way back when.

I don't actually recall ever getting the notice either!

Yeah, I keep thinking back to how long it took to get to DVD, and when it finally did, they weren't the original versions.

Who knows though, the HD rollout doesn't have much in common with the DVD rollout.

Well, over at theforce.net, it is being reported that Lucas is teaming up with Disney for a "Clone Wars" series. Point being, that could go to Blu-Ray pretty quick because of Disney. Maybe that will jump start the engines to bring the Star Wars movies to Blu. But like everyone else saying, that could just be a dream.

Definitely a placeholder page. It's been up for months if my memory serves me correctly. They had a similar one for Robocop...and now that the actual pre-order is up for that, that placeholder page means nothing.

There were ones for the Indiana Jones Trilogy and the Matrix Trilogy as well...and who knows what's going on with those.

And they have had that LOTR page up for a very long time without any word of a release. I think this is the same and I think EricJ has it right.
