Default Horror films you're surprised to not see on Blu this Oct.

Given that we're about to enter September without announcements, I'm assuming these won't hit blu-ray this year. I'm surprised to not see:

Halloween 4 + 5 (I figured Anchor Bay would be itching to get these out)
Additional Elm St. sequels (cross-promoting with the BD release of the remake would make sense)
Additional Friday the 13ths (what's the hold-up?)
Frighteners, Slither (both previously released on HD-DVD)

and I'm also surprised that Universal hasn't started (even with just a release or two) to release any classic monster titles. I believe the source material is in solid shape and there's plenty of existing supplements. Why not put Dracula on blu and see what happens?

As you guys have already mentioned, I'm very surprised (and extremely disappointed) Warner hasn't decided to release more Elm St. movies to tie in with the BD release of the remake.

To be honest I am not surprised at Warner at all, they do not want to link the new film to the old ones too much, they want to launch a new franchise and fans have a hard time letting go of the originals so it's understandable they want the new film to shine on it's own and let the originals come out latter. i mean it made sense to put the very first out when they did because it still is the best and it ties in with the new film being that is the source material. I honestly think next year makes more sense for the latter films just because by then the remake will have either spawned it's sequel or will have been out of the way enough.

Yeah this one surprises me still. The only Halloween movies I'll buy on blu are 1,2, and H20. None of that Rob Zombie $hit he calls a remake

in a sense I do think more NOES movies belong on Blu, considering the first one is the only one I really love (except New Nightmare.... can you get that on Blu-Ray pretty please!!!) I'm not completely upset about it, but I do know these movies have their fanbase and should be released.

Same here, those three are a nice trilogy (albeit owned by three different studios) and are the only ones I'd want on BD. I recently parted ways with 90% of my DVD's since I want to concentrate on making the upgrade (I've only had a player for a month and only have 12 discs thus far) but Halloween II was one of the select few DVD's I decided to keep because I always feel compelled to watch it immediately after pt. 1 since I see the two films as one three hour horror epic. Would love to see it remastered, and I would like to get H20 too on Blu.

Paramount is going to wait as long as possible to issue the back library of Friday the 13th. They issued the first 3 like 3 times. 1 Original, One Boxset, One Uncut. The rest, twice. New Line is probably making the NOES a priority in the new year, of course, after the (2010) Nightmare is released in a few months. After that, will they take care of Final Friday and Jason X.

As far as horror movies that really need a blu released, I'm throwing my hat in for the Leprechaun: Pot of Gore collection and Sleepaway Camp. I don't actually know of Sleepaway was released, but I don't think it was...

regarding the Friday the 13th's (I have one, want to get 2 and 3), why hasn't The Final Chapter been released? Latter films in the franchise (although I liked The New Blood) are usually seen as inferior but The Final Chapter is generally considered the most popular one or at least one of the three best (with 1 and 2 being the others)

I'm surprised that Universal did not try to release the original Wolf Man to coincide with the remake.

Suspiria, given that Vivendi is distributing Weinstein's releases and there are a couple masters out there now.

Phantasm

Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition

Zombie - would have thought BU would want to get this one out early

Slumber Party Massacre collection - its coming to DVD in Oct. but not blu-ray guess the master is in too bad a shape to release in HD

Re-Animator

This is one that surprises me. Especially with the 2007 DVD release. I really want this one.

As already mentioned

- Halloween II

And definetely

- Jaws

Isn't it the 35th anniversary of Jaws this year? How can Universal miss this chance to release it as a 35th anniversary Blu-ray edition this year? I'm very shocked about this one!

Agreed, with the 35th anniversary I assumed it would come out this year like the DVD's did for the 25th and 30th, hell I'd buy Jaws 2 as well.

In general it seems like there's a lack of classic Spielberg on the market. We do have Close Encounters (which is one I'm meaning to get and will likely pick up in the near future), but we need Jaws, Indiana Jones trilogy, E.T., The Color Purple, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List, all of which are mandatory deluxe edition Blu-Rays IMO.
