Just wondering how many people can actually do this without heating issues.
I just picked up a new HTiB and would like to now keep my PS3 in the cabinet instead of sitting on top of it for aesthetics. I tried to do it with my Fat PS3, but it soon protested with the fans going into overdrive while playing back a Blu. I have a Slim in my bedroom and am thinking about swapping places with the Fat in the living room but only if I can successfully keep it happy inside the cabinet without heating woes. FWIW, I do have computer fan hooked up to blow out the hot air in the back of the cabinet and am looking into another USB Fan I've seen around here in other threads if needed. If you do keep it in a cabinet...What methods are you using to keep the heat accumulation in check other than keeping the doors open during use? Thanks in advance for some insight and suggestions. |

I just keep the doors open during use. The slim doesn't put out anywhere near as much heat as the fat. So far so good and it's been a few years I think. At least I got the slim when it first came out, which feels like a few years ago. Although, I don't play for long periods of time.
I probably should get some kind of fan though. |

From what I understand, Slims heat up a bit faster than their older bros, so it may not be a good idea.
If I were you, I'd try it for a day or so, if you can...though monitor it. Every twenty minutes or so check up on it, feel the top, and depending on that, go ahead or switch back. |

Yeah you have to keep an eye on it. The back of my cabinet is black fabric, so maybe that let's the heat out more than a solid backing. Is it ideal? No. I'd like much more circulation, but I work with what I have and it's done ok so far. If something fries I'll change up my situation and buy another one.

I would never keep any high powered electronics in an inclosed area. Heat is the death of electronics. They need to vent and breath.

I've got mine in a cabinet, I removed the whole back area where the PS3 is so it get's full circulation, plus I mounted a fan in the corner to blow the air out of the cabinet. I've had zero problems and the fan has never revved up on me, if it did the PS3 would be moved and not put there again. Last edited by 1blufan; 09-22-2010 at 04:04 PM. |

I keep my slim in a credenza (cabinet) and haven't had any problems with it. I used to have my fatty in the same cabinet and had to aim the vent side towards the opening in the front. Not doing this would result in some play issues for movies and games. Not having this issue with my slim.

In any case, it's never a good idea to put electronics in a closed cabinet if you want them to last. Overheating makes the fans work harder, and if a fan goes byebye, there go all your microchips with it. |

i don't have any of my electronics near each other. each item has its own shelf on my stand.
TV --- sound bar ---- ps3 slim all adequate storage space for each, none are closed in. the stand i have them on is built like a shelf, but without a back and no sides (other than the 4" x 4 beams that hold the stand together of course) and nothing sits close to the stand so everything has more than enough room. add in the fan i have behind all this, and i hope i'm good for a long time to come. |

Don't keep it in a closed cabinet when in use. Open up the cabinet door. I've had one of my kids close the cabinet door when it was being played on accident and after just a little bit, it sounds like a jet engine getting ready to take off with the fan in overdrive.
