Default HDMI Signal Loss

Hi,

I hope I'm posing it in the right forum, if not, feel free to move this thread. Let's get to the issue. I hooked up my new Mitsubishi HC3800 projector today. After connecting it to PS3 (through a 15m HDMI ->amplifier -> 2m HDMI -> PS3) I noticed a strong signal loss. I thought it was due to either the cheap 15m cable or the projector's week connector but suprisingly after turning on a blu-ray movie all the problems went away. It seems like the signal loss only occurs when browsing the PS3 menu while everything else works. Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue?

P.S. I connected PS3 directly through Sony's 2m HDMI cable and the signal loss was still there in the menu.

Here's a short video (the blue screen that appears when switching to a movie displays a message "no signal")

Thanks, Paul

The sony cable might be your weak link here....try using only the 15m cable directly from the PS3 to the Projector...

Thanks for the answer crackinhedz. The 15m cable is a $50 prolink, not sure what AWG it is. I'll try connecting it directly to PS3 later today and report back.

Regards,
Knowing the thickness of the cable might help. 22AWG being the thickest. How long is the run to the projector from the AVR and PS3?

The cable from the projector to the AVR is 15 meters and the one from AVR to PS3 is 2 meters. I've google it and it seems like no one else has ever had this problem Do you know how I can update the HC3800's firmware? Maybe that could help.

Thanks,

After connecting the projector directly to PS3 through the 2 meter Sony HDMI again the signal problems went away but now they got even worse with the 15 meter cable since now there's signal loss in the movies too Do you think an HDMI repeater would help?

Thanks,

Thanks,
I think a repeater is a good idea. They are real cheap too (I have an extra one if you are interested....you can PM me).

Here is the one I have that I am not using.....

not sure why the 2m (6ft) cable is giving you problems as well?

perhaps your cable is loose? or not seated firmly? Odd that a 6ft cable will have issues.

Have you tried changing resolutions? like 720p instead of 1080p?

do you have any other HDMI components you can connect to the projector? (to see if PS3 is the problem)

Do you have another HDTV to connect the PS3 to? (to see if the projector is the problem)

...if none of the above is the culprit (hdmi handshake), then it might just be the cables.

Kevi, I don't know if a 25' cable would work for you, but if so try this one out:

25FT 22AWG CL2 Silver Plated High Speed HDMI Cable

if you need longer cables, then look into Bluejeanscable.com

...these are only two brands I would ever really buy for the money.

I have this same exact cable, except mine is 35' and it works great. But I do have an HDMI repeater due to the long run for extra piece of mind as well.
