Default The Official 'Does It Deserve 5 Stars!?' (Now Discussing Sci Fi)

OK. Seems a lot of people are checking the first post and posting 5 star movies... and for that, i apologize, thats my fault... the thread has been changed to 5 star movies by CATEGORY... the category will change every few days and will be in the thread title....

Discuss/Bash/Relate and see what we all think are truly classic or cult favorites around Bluray.com....

Back to the Future (not part 2 or 3 though; I'd give them a 4/5)
LOTR Trilogy
The Dark Knight
The Godfather
Planet of the Apes
Donnie Darko
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

If we're counting TV shows, I'd say
Chuck Season 2 (possibly season 3, I haven't seen it)
LOST: The Complete Collection
Prison Break Seasons 1-4

IMO with most horror series the first is the only 5 star movie. It may not be like that for all but for most it is. It's just that he is a massive Jason fan and i understand that i am a huge Evil Dead fan and i have a hard time giving any of them less then 5 each.

U have to remember u rate a film based on how good u think it is and how much u like the film. Dont watch a horror film and compare it to the likes of Shawshank. If its a great horror film then it can get a 5 star rating, that doesnt mean its as good as the greatest film ever in Shawshank. To me those Friday the 13th films, atleast the parts I listed are top notch and deserve 5 star ratings in the horror genre. Hope that helps. Got Em!!

Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Fantastic Mr. Fox

ACTION
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
The Bourne Ultimatum

there are probably some more too i just can't think of off hand

although i will be going back and reviewing each and every film i've seen and really deciding what is 5/5 and what isn't. so some of these may fall off the list eventually, this is what i have right now.

yea i agree.... im a huge Freddy fan... and i actually like Part 3 BETTER than the first but the first is the only classic... 3 is my personal favorite for comedy and some of the kills and creepiness

idk, as ive seen, i give out 5 stars way less frequently than most others do...

Yep! This goes back to the discussion I had with a few people on here about best/favorite films. If u like a film that much and can watch it over and over then it must be a 5 star film in your eyes. I base my take on the greatness of the film and how much I really like it personally. Its a combination. Got Em!!

fun idea for a thread--

5 stars to me means several things-- usually the difference between a
4 star movie and a 5 is that it has an emotional effect on me--
"Man On Fire" comes to mind-- if it didn't have that scene where Denzel
is reunited with Dakota Fanning at the end-- it would have been a 4 star
film.

"Alien" and "Aliens" are also examples-- I'm on the edge of my seat
or I'm genuinely thrilled/scared/exhilarated

Lastly-- it's just a movie that I've grown to love-- it may not have the
emotional/adrenaline impact like above-- but I can watch it over and over
and it's always a great movie!

some other 5 star movies for me--

Braveheart
The Thing (1982)
Halloween (1978)
King Kong (1933)
Casablanca (1942)
Dirty Harry
Million Dollar Baby
Death Wish
The Wizard Of Oz
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles
The Untouchables
Saving Private Ryan
Robocop
Psycho
Cape Fear (1991)
Silence Of The Lambs
Se7en
Carrie
E.T.
The Dead Zone
The Shining
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty;s Secret Service
The Innocents
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
