Not similar movies at all. Prestige is a supernatural film about magic entwined around 2 men and the lives they live. Powerful performances by Caine, Bale and Jackman. Underworld is an excellent action film that you'll like if you're into Beckinsale.

Na, The Prestige isn't a supernatural film. I have the Blu-ray. Tesla's invention in the movie for replicating objects including hats, cats, and humans was science fiction. Tesla was actually trying to build a machine to transport objects through space-time.

The movie is top notch sci-fi with a twisted and complicated plot. Get The Prestige. Here's why:

[Show spoiler]A magician know as Borden (Bale) had an act which involved his own twin that made it appear to the audience that he could do something like what Tesla's machine could do. However, nobody knew that he a twin though, not even their wife whom they shared. It was the perfect illusion. But, Borden had an arch rival and enemy, another magician known as Angier. The beginning of the movie builds on that theme and how both of them ended up that way. Now, Angier wasn't going to be out performed by Borden. He convinced Tesla to build him the machine. Tesla, I guess for the money, reluctantly built Angier the machine which Angier used for his Transported Man Act. Now Angier could replicate himself and perform the act without a twin. However, Angier's real motive was not just the prestige. He was out to totally ruin Borden and make him suffer as he had suffered. He was out to rip Borden's soul right out of his body. Yet never did he realize that Borden had a twin. Angier's Transported Man Act, and the sinister, evil, and diabolical way that he did it, wasn't an illusion nor was it supernatural.

I've never seen Underworld, but I would imagine it is more re-watchable than The Prestige. Prestige was Good-ish, but you couldn't pay me to sit through it again.

That's the term I was looking for!

If we still had that reputation system in place I'd totally be all like "wormraper, +1, homey!"

Both are great movies. Its more between whether or not you want action, Underworld, or a psycollogical thrillar, The Prestige. The Prestige makes you think more where Underworld is more for the fight sequences and mindless action but in a good way. Whoever said Underworld is like Twilight is wrong. Besides vampires, that's pretty much all they have in common.

I will go with "totally different films" as well.

I much prefer The Prestige as I think it is a better film.
Underworld- Vampires vs Werewolves fighting with cool action and good story.
Prestige- Rival magicians who try and top each other while trying to destroy each other.

Both films are top notch in their genres, IMO. Great acting and very interesting stories. Why not get both?

What he typed, depending on your tastes though for me Underworld has more re-play value. I thought Prestige was great though, but if I wanna see it again I can have Netflix send a Blu to me, it cannot be streamed as of today.

If it's only one out of these two, I'd definitely go with Prestige. This is on so many levels an outstanding movie. The type of ending this movie features, would render several viewings boring/meaningless for an average movie, for Prestige it's actually quite the opposite.

For me this is always a clear sign for greatness, like Shawshank Redemption or A Tale of two Sisters.

But if you can manage to buy both, go for it! Underworld is an outstanding movie in its own genre.

I'd pick Underworld but it's true there is nothing in common between these movies.

I would go for Underworld.

Underworld = Kate Beckinsale in tight leather pants

Better movie to not wack off to = The Prestige.

Crappier film to wack off to cause of Kate = Underworld.

Your choice.

Seriously though, Underworld is a great action movie with awesome AQ and PQ. The whole series is outstanding. If you are into Vampires vs. Werewolves battles you will like this flick.

I can not wait for the 4th installment.
