I'm not really big on playing games on ps3..... mostly PC for me. But I have it.
How safe is it to use as blu ray player? Quality wise, performance, playing dvds on it? Or should I get stand alone blu ray player? Thank you! |

Top of the line Blu-ray player. I use my PS3 as my main player and have had zero problems with it. I've never had a movie not play in it unlike some other players. The firmware updates are easy and hassle free.
You never know you might even use the PS3 for gaming instead of always using the PC. You can play Uncharted 2 as your first PS3 game and I'm sure it will pull you into the gaming system side even more. The PS3 does do almost Everything. Don't hesitate and grab one |

It works very well. Usually the biggest complaint is the fan noise, especially from older systems. If you get the PS3 slim it's much quieter, I use the slim in my main setup and I can't hear the fan even with quiet scenes unless I come right up to the system.
As a bonus, the Ps3 also has some great added features apart from videogames (things like media center so you can play music/pictures/downloaded videos/ internet browser). Also, updates are free and regular so you don't have to worry as much about it becoming obsolete right away (I think newer standalone players for the most part are better for this now too) Also, videogames!! EDIT: Yes the PS3 plays DVD's by the way. |

Considering the games are bluray....yeah, it's safe.
![]() But if you mean quality wise of the movies, they're beautiful as expected. Ps3 is really one of the best. Plus, it's a very fast loader. BD Live connects quickly. Movies load fast. So yep. |

The PS3 since it debuted in 2006 and until this day remain the best bang per buck as a blu ray player! Sure there are more superior players out there now that have better audio and picture quality but also cost much more. My S570 is a superior blu ray player in terms of AQ and PQ, but my PS3 is a better overall machine.

If you don't see yourself playing any games on it, save yourself some money and just buy a standalone player. Not saying the PS3 isn't a good bluray player, just saying for less money you could have something else.

It's an ideal player because it supports BD-Live so well; you can download extra content for some films and store data from the disc to speed up the loading. T2 has a few downloadable extras like trailers, etc.
Picture and sound and fantastic and it's likely to be the only player that can be updated to support 3D; it's pretty much future proof. |

I have been so impressed with how good the PS3 is as a BD player that i'm thinking of upgrading to a PS3 slim and using my present 80 Gig as a stand-alone blu ray player.
Never had a single problem in almost 3 years playing any blu ray's on my PS3. Can't speak for stand-alone players though. It will be a Firmware thing, i guess. |
