United Kingdom Bad lieutenant/The killer inside me

Anyones purchasing these, I think that bad lieutenant was one of the best films of the year you'll love it if your a fan of Nick Cage going mental. Never got chance to see the killer inside me but i thought thought it looked good.

My copy of Bad Lieutenant arrived last friday, complete with genuinely amazing slipcase (and I don't like slipcases). Having already seen The Killer Inside Me I wouldn't pick it up on Blu-ray. Its a great central performance from Affleck, but its not the sort of film I want to watch again. My wife was in tears at the cinema, so brutal is the violence. Bad Lieutenant on the other hand; well, we saw that theatrically too, and its a film I could watch over and over. Its completely bonkers, but in the best of ways. Its the sort of film that makes one resent Cage for doing rubbish like The Sorcerer's Apprentice!

I think its possibly worth mentioning todays release of Tetro in this thread too, as its not hugely dissimilar to the other two titles (in the sense that its a character piece based around a key central performance). My copy arrived with Bad Lieutenant, and I watched it over the weekend. Its a beautiful looking film, and I was gripped throughout, with it already amongst my favourites of the year after only one viewing.

I loved Bad Lieutenant, one of the better films released this year, and one which took hardly any notice (as usual the rubbish blockbusters draw peoples attention).

I really want to order it, but I have pre-ordered MANY Blu-rays that will be coming out during the next few months, and I don't think I can spare any more money on film that is not on my high-priority list.

I really want to see The Killer Inside Me, waiting for a Blu-ray review, then I'll rent it

Saw both at the cinema. Picked up Bad Lieutenant today. Bad Lieutenant is a superb film and The Killer Inside Me is great, up until the ending, which seriously sucks.

Really enjoyed Bad Lieutenant, while the original is full of Catholic guilt the new one seems to be more about the sheer fun of being absolutely mental. In Cage Herzog seems to have found a worthy successor to Kinski (but not as demented off screen). The Killer Inside Me is probably the toughest and nastiest in a long career of tough and nasty books by Jim Thompson and was thought unfilmable, I think the first attempt was in the mid 50s with Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando, Stacey Keach appeared in a reasonable version in the 1970s and I think Tom Cruise was interested in having a go at it in the 80s. The film tries too hard to be faithful to the book and winds up with a monotone performance from Affleck. The book is well worth reading as are all Thompson's other bleak and harrowing novels especially Savage Night.

Bad Lieutenant/The Killer Inside Me

Good idea, that. Put 2 crap B-grade films in the one thread. Less forum space used.

Review of Killer UK Blu-ray http://www.avforums.com/movies/The-K...-Sep-2010.html

I sat down to watch that with great hope (truly fab cast and very interesting director) and was sorely let down. It was a complete disaster of a film. Everything about it I think stunk to high heaven. Real shame.

As for Nic Cage, well he's got the worst hair on the West Coast of the USA and he keeps picking bad scripts with even worse producers and distributors. A really bad put together film and unlike his hair Cage is all over the place with his acting. He can be a great screen actor but not here I'm afraid. 1/10 for the UK lenticular case.

Review of BLPOCNO (or BLPOCNO for short) UK Blu-ray http://homecinema.thedigitalfix.co.uk/content/id/73127/

And shame on the producers of BLPOCNO trying to link a POS to the great (and serious) Abel Ferrara classic

Alot of people liked Bad Lieutenant. For one, Empire gave it 5 stars. I'm pretty sure it has an average score of like 80-something% on rotten tomatoes, too.

...I have no idea what point I'm trying to make here. As for Killer Inside Me, I fancied seeing that but maybe I'll wait til it's abit cheaper now.

Enjoyed both Films, Thought BL was better, Cage was excellent. Killer was pretty brutal in places, Not sure how much rewatch value it has though.

Yep, Bad Lieutenant has a RT score of 86%. Ebert named it in his best of the decade, as you say, Empire gave it 5 stars, and both Bradshaw and Brooks gave it 4 stars in The Guardian (Bradshaw being a particularly difficult critic). Sight and Sound gave it the cover story too, which is rare for a film of this ilk.

So yeah, for The Driver to refer to it as a POS is completely unfair. Fair enough, you may not have liked it, but it was generally well received.

Incidentally, the Ferrera Bad Lieutenant has a significantly lower RT score to Herzog's film (76%).

I feel the same about TKIM. I thought it was a beautiful looking film, and Affleck is amazing in the role, but the sheer brutality has put me off of buying it.

Yes, maybe I am being harsh with BLPOCNO but I genuinely thought it was a badly made film. I laughed several times and if I'd seen it at the cinema I would have walked out. I'm never happy if a film steals my time. However, I will watch it again soon.

TKIM, terrible direction or script? It looked great and I liked the cast but something was very wrong with it. Maybe it ws made 30 years too late ie we'd seen all the violence and pervision done well from the likes of David Lynch. I didn't like or relate to anyone either. Even in the darkest of Lynchian moments you have someone/something to hold on to. Affleck (who I like very much) may have been out of his league here too. Great to see Ned Beatty back (again though his part did not ring true for me).

I haven't seen The Killer Inside Me, so I couldn't possibly comment on it. I have seen Bad Lieutenant though and I loved every second of it, brilliant movie. Arguably Cage's best performance since Leaving Las Vegas. Funny as hell in places too.

The BD is a solid disc too, even the slipcase

Just finished watching TKIM and maybe its just me but i thought the movie was terrible. I still don't know what the point of the movie even is.
[Show spoiler]I just don't undestand why he killed the girl when he was saying how much he loved her and couldn't stop thinking of her. And then kill her again at the end.
I have never read the book so maybe this movie is for people who have read the book.

Because he was mental? Insanity isn't supposed to be understood.
