United Kingdom The Car (1977) - July 15th

The Car Blu-ray

The Car Blu-ray

THERE'S NOWHERE TO RUN, NOWHERE TO HIDE, NO WAY TO STOP... THE CAR

Made when Jaws was still the most successful film of all time, The Car has almost exactly the same premise, but replaces the ocean with the Utah desert, and the shark with a Lincoln Continental Mark III of possibly supernatural origin.

When two teenage cyclists and a hitch-hiking musician are killed in apparently deliberate hit-and-runs, the police department of Santa Ynez investigates, whereupon the seemingly driverless vehicle turns on its hapless officers as well. And when the car strikes rather too close to the home of Captain Wade Parent (James Brolin), he vows to stop at nothing to defeat it.

Director Elliot Silverstein (Cat Ballou, A Man Called Horse) keeps everything as slick and streamlined as the car itself, turning the desert landscape into a powerfully mythic backdrop for a potent clash between the forces of good and those of inexplicable but clearly implacable evil.

Special Features:
- High Definition presentation (1080p), on Blu-ray for the first time in the world!
- Optional English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
- Audio commentary with director Elliot Silverstein moderated by Calum Waddell
- Making a Mechanical Monster: Special Effects Artist William Alridge Remembers The Car
- Hitchhike the Hell: Actor John Rubinstein recalls becoming a victim of The Car
- Original Trailer
- Easter Egg
- Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Joe Wilson
- Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by Cullen Gallagher as well as a brand new interview with co-writer Michael Butler conducted by Calum Waddell, illustrated with original archive stills and artwork

Definite buy. Time to retire the Anchor Bay and Universal DVDs at last, neither of which were satisfactory though the AB did have enjoyable menus

Are their titles usually region-free?

Great! Another DVD from my collection which I can finally replace.
I'm not really fond of the cover art though.
Anyway, time to start playing with my diecast again

You do get the original art on the reverse. Wish they had used the French art though:

Are you sure that's the original art?
I always thought this was the original:

Oh Hell yes, I was talking the other week about this, my mate has a black Chrysler 300C that reminds of the car. Great great movie.

Default The Car (1977)

If this was already announced I apologize - it appears this will be released by Arrow Video on July 15. I have already pre ordered it from Zaavi and it looks as though the video quality is quite good judging from a recent review at Dvd Beaver. Great popcorn fare!

That crazy French art does at least feature as the cover of the booklet accompanying the Blu-ray and the image of the car from it is also used on the disc label.

I saw it once a couple of years ago. Thought it was good fun without being fantastic (it's not The Duel), but enough fun for me to get this BD.

Grew up with this one so there is that nostalgia factor!! but I can't imagine anyone being disappointed when viewing this for the 1st time.

It's like Jaws & Duel had a baby.....A baby CAR

When people say it is not as good as Duel it means that it is more fun than Duel.
