Default TrueHD or DTS-HD MA when Star Wars (& other Lucasfilm movies) comes to Blu-ray? Both?

Lucas loves Dolby, but Fox loves DTS MA. Will we see both when Star Wars comes out on Blu-Ray like Close Encounters was released, or will they only have Dolby TrueHD since Lucas has never used DTS on Star Wars?

Oof - good question. I wish for DTS HD MA, but I did not know Lucas was in bed with DD - blast! Well, let's hope for the best - which would be just getting it out on our format period. It can be TrueHD, DTS HD MA, PCM - heck, digitally erase Jar Jar from Episode 1!!

Maybe they will have a branching version of episode I that will allow you to watch the version with or without Jar Jar. Mesa thinks Jar Jar needs to go. maybe they could have a version where every time jar jar comes on screen he gets hit by blaster fire and explodes like the Death Star, that would be great.
as for what kind of audio the blu-rays will have, I am pretty sure you are right about DD.

i'm hoping for a DTS-MA or a PCM soundtrack TrueHD dosen't seem as full and loud as the other 2, kinda disapointed by it when i listen to a loud scene on Ghost Rider on DDTHD then i switch to PCM pcm just sounds so much better and louder along with spider-man 3 especially notacible at the end scene when he kills venom with the pipes. truehd is holding sumthing back

Keep Natalie Portman in non-painted scenes.

Your brain is being fooled by volume: once volume is matched, it will sound identical. Lossless = Lossless.

Except when it has Dialog Normalization, which Dolby TrueHD frequently does.

I really want DTS MA-drop enough extra's from the movie discs and put dd and dts on each movie. Blu's got enough space to put all 6 movie's extras on a bd 50 for those that want them. Only thing should be on the movie discs is a stero director's comintary, scene selection and very basic stuff.
Saving room for dts ma is what matters to me so 90% of extra's need their own bd-50..problem solved i hope.

I am almost certian it will be Dolby TrueHD, but I don't think Lucas will use dialog normalisation, so it will be fine. He's all about the original sound from the studio, with THX mastering and all. And he's like Spielberg: he's powerful enough to override the studio on things like sound (while Spielberg demands DTS on his movies).

Besides he cares more about the sound effects than the story. at least these days

I think it will be a dolbytrue hd track.
Because Thx surround Ex was developed with dolby.

But i am hoping for a dts or pcm track. either way it must be 7.1! and THX on blu!! can't wait!

The Pod Race will be another reference scene for srround sound and LFE usage. I'll get it just for this scene alone

But on topic: How about a 2 disc release with all the bonus content on the second disc, leaving enough room for DTHD (without DN), DTS HD MA and PCM. That way everybody is happy.

While I would prefer DTS, I think as long as they avoid DN, use the best elements available, and go THX with it, that it will be great.

If DN is off, then Dolby should be identical as lossless is lossless, but DTS HD MAA requires less headroom IIRC and the core 1.5 Mbps track makes it a better option IMO.

I think Lucas, since he is one of the biggest proponents of the "audio is half of the experience" school of thought, will pay as much attention to the sound as the video.

I hope we also get the SE and original versions with seamless branching. I am in the camp that prefers the original music in Jedi, cutesy Ewok song and all.

Chris

IMO as long as the PQ is given most of the space on the disc and keep all the extra's, games, online stuff on the second blu-ray disc. I would not mind ether one.

I was reading online about some studio's wanting to "STUFF" the blu-ray's with lots of other stuff, and I fear there will be less room for the Hi-def Pic and sound of there Film's.
