I say "Who needs Microsoft?"

That's a company worth avoiding if you ask me.

at least unlike apple Microsoft hasn't closed the door completely on the possibility of Blu-ray on the xbox 720 (provided that with backwards thinking like that they may never get the chance to release it).

Thanks,
T

X-Box's don't need Blu-ray because that would be one more thing to break on those unreliable pieces of junk. I'll stick to my PS3, which is more than reliable.

Yeah I don't want an X-Box anyway so this is fine by me, let Gates' company continue to be backward thinking and silly.

It's pretty simple

Apple hates Blu-ray because they want to sell you iTunes
Microsoft hates Blu-ray because now that HD DVD is dead, and VC-1 is choking its last, they have no more financial interest in it outside of a fairly small share in the patent pool. MS also makes quite a bit off of Netflix installations because all of their streaming is built on MS Silverlight

So it is in the best interests of both companies, who DO have signifigant streaming and VOD businesses to make those your only choice as quickly as possible.

Just FYI, they could launch a Blu-ray drive for XBox tomorrow if they wanted to. They'd just need to patch up the software they wrote a few years back and it's good to go.Companies make stuff they never market a lot, just go digging in Nintendo's closet

'nuff said.

Microsoft may have no other option but to use Blu-ray in their next generation Xbox - they need the additional space for games, also to be competitive they need the Xbox to play Blu-ray movies!

What they are saying now is pure spin since it is not in their current console.

agree. It is normal for a PR person to downplay what can't be offered from their product, anything else would have been news worthy.

And yet you choose to bump the htread to the top and add to it

I agree that blu ray will have to be in the next generation machines to be competitive. Nothing else offers what blu has to offer.

This. They have an upcoming dilemma to face for the 720. This generation, their plan to use HD DVD to kill off physical formats didn't go their way.

1. Stick with DVD. They would have to do installs like PC games to do this option. Not a very efficient way to do things. It would give MS the image that they are too stubborn. By now, most consumers have accepted BD as the successor to the DVD format, whether they bought into it or not.

2. Go with a proprietary format like Nintendo does every generation. It doesn't go well with MS wanting to be the monopoly of digital entertainment in the living room.

3. Go completely digital. PSP Go - do I need to say more? Now with 50 GB games instead of 1 gig games. Biggest market for MS = USA. USA = one of the slowest countries for internet speed.

4. Go along with the Blu-ray format. This is option is likely to happen. It will give them the image of "losing" to the competition. Little to people know that Panasonic has a bigger stake in BD than Sony, financially. It could be a bad image to their fans, but they will get over it pretty quickly.

At this point, although I own a 360 - I will likely pass on the next MS console. The way they let off a bunch of studios didn't help my opinion of them.

Probably 90% of the business world who as Windows & Office running on their computers. The bulk of MS money is not made with videogames and the general public but with Windows & MS Office licences sold to companies. All the 50000 laptops where I work run on XP, do you think they all use downloaded copies of the net The Xbox and their videogames department is just a little bit more gravy on the already large beef steak they have

We must fight them in the Air, Land and Sea, HD-DVD must die die die.

With ISP caps you cannot stream HD with good audio. Sore loosers. Even Jodi Sally came around and saw the pure awsome and stimulation in blu-ray.

She never really looked that enthused in her press conferences. I think she was a closet Blu the whole time.
