Default Question for all veteran G1 to G2 steels.

this question has been bothering me for a while. i just started collecting blu Steels, i had 5 DVD steels before and didn't really get into the collection. now i collect them more often (Blu Steelbooks) my question is to all veteran DVD to Blu steel collecters, what happened to all those rare Dvd steels? are they still worth the $$$? Like blu steelbooks for indy 4, iron man, star trek rambo, which are sought after and are a lot of money now. Are the Dvd steels still valuable? not bashing anybody or anything like that, just want some more insider info. from veterans of the game.

I would say as the buyers decrease so will the demand and price.

might be a better answered question for those on the steelbookhunterz board since they are still buying and selling dvd steels

DVD steels never really "took off" like BD steels did. The only ones I know of are:

Back To The Future Trilogy
American Gangster
Hancock
Cloverfield
Transformers 1
Transformers 2
Iron Man 1
Iron Man 2
Jurassic Park Trilogy

And a few random compliation of films, usually 3, in a single DVD steelbook. These are all easy to come by, and not really worth a lot anymore.

to me it never came to having a big Dvd Steel collection, i still have the Departed, Live free or die Hard and Death Proof, and i sold off Robocop, the Boondock saints @ a Yard sale for cheap. now its different for G2, now im more into collecting, and not really about the resale or trade to other members, just collecting for keeps.

Same in the UK. For example, there were over 30 releases listed as Definitive Editions (later released in standard cases.) These include such releases as all 4 Alien films, the Predator films, At least the first Terminator the first couple of x-men, Silence of the Lambs, Battle of Britain, Wind Talkers, Raging Bull, Fight Club.

There are actually quite a lot! I had over 30 DVD Steels, most of those you named! I sold off around 10 and upgraded those to Blus, and have around 20 left, I must say some were worth quite a bit before the Blu-ray format really took off, I only wish I sold them around 2 years ago. I still have these left, but don't want to sell them off yet, as they are still Steels.

I have around 164 dvd SteelBooks, and I would estimate that there are something around 700-1000 dvd SteelBooks worldwide, so to say they never really "took off" is somewhat of an understatement, I'd say. If you are referring to the US market, then I'd have to say that they took off just fine at first, but once blu-ray started commanding more and more market share, the demand for exclusive packaging for dvds in general decreased significantly across the board, not just SteelBooks. I used to see Limited Edition stuff for dvds all the time, but now, not so much. I stopped collecting them once I went blu, but I have kept them for now and have made hybrids on a few of 'em.

There are still dvd SteelBook Collectors around, but the demand has dropped significantly, as has the amount of dvd SteelBook releases worldwide. As for the ones that used to command triple digit prices, those were only a few to begin with, and while I doubt anyone would pay that much now, I still think it'll take more than just a few dollars to get someone to part with an X-Men 3 from FS. I just did a quick search on EBay, and most can be had for close to nothing, but Platoon just sold for $55 (shipping included). I don't really follow dvd SteelBook prices like I used to, so this might be a fluke or it might be the going price for it now.

Here is a link to my dvd SteelBooks Collection (I think that is all of 'em, been awhile since I've checked on this list) :http://mr-b.dvdaf.com/owned/steelbooks

Some of my personal fav's that have not been done yet in a blu-ray SteelBook are:
Apocalypse Now
Apocalypto
Appleseed
Appleseed: Ex Machina
Boondock Saints
Butterfly Effect (Sweden)
The Godfather-Coppola Restoration
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
King Kong (Sweden or Germany)
The Machinist (Germany)
Mummy Trilogy (UK)
Passion of the Christ (Sweden)
Platoon
The Proposition
The Punisher (Netherlands)
Reservoir Dogs (Netherlands)
Robocop
Taxi Driver (Sweden)
White Noise (Netherlands)
White Noise 2 (Netherlands)

Oh, and my new Avatar is actually the back of the Batman Begins dvd SteelBook from Spain. I always wanted to get it, but I never got my hands on the Spain version; picked up the German one though to go with my other Batman dvd steelies. Looking forward to the blu-ray SteelBook coming out for Batman Begins.

I don't think he has them all, but he has a lot. The person you are thinking about would be Tutter. I'm pretty sure he has most, if not all of 'em. I know he is missing a few of 'em though, 'cos I still have them for him, lol! He has this wall of shelves from Ikea, and it is row after row of SteelBooks. He's also doing the blu's, and I'm sure he has most of them as well.

In my opinion DVD SteelBooks will go the way of the 8-track SteelBooks.

I do have a few still, even though I have sold off the DVDs now, I've still kept the DVD SteelBooks esp. for the Disneys.
