2011 there were only select releases like Greatest Superstars of 21s Century and OMG!, but no Nitro. |

I like picking up these WCW releases. I've always been a WWE fan ever since I started watching pro wrestling in the 90's and very rarely watched WCW when it was in business so picking up these DVDs and BDs that WWE has released has allowed me to earn respect and appreciation for it in hindsight. I can't wait to pick this one up and see some more.

One could make an argument for the attitude era which depending on who you ask can be anywhere from Post-Bret Hart to 2002 (when Stone Cold and Rock both left full-time) or the Rise of Stone Cold to 2002. However without the nWo there is no DX, without Eric Bischoff (the on-tv character of corrupt company head) there is no Mr. McMahon character. Without cruiserweights, WWE would've never created the Light Heavyweight division. I'm very bitter of how WCW was sold to McMahon. If you actually read about how it all went down behind the scenes, there's a lot of shady dealings going on. McMahon bought WCW for pennies on the dollar. |

![]() it is fun to watch the old WCW stuff. always had a different look than WWF and always Nitro always seemed like a big show compared to the early RAW's from the same time. |

While 96 was a bad year for the WWF, in 1997 you had the epic Anti-American Hart Foundation run and the rise of DX...you had Stone Cold reaching boiling point with popularity and 1998 you had WWF reach its manic peak...so I can give you 1996 and maybe, maybe most of 1997, but in no way did WCW do better than the WWF in 1998...no way...

But first half of 96 pre-nWo was still better than what WWF had other than Wrestlemania. Then mid year when Hall and Nash came to Great American Bash was MUST SEE. Then Bash at the Beach... changed wrestling forever. 97 was an awesome year with Sting saving the day every week culminating to Sting vs. Hogan at Starrcade. Ratings wise, WCW in 96-97 may not be able to touch late 2000's WWF but it was by far more popular amongst wrestling fans. Late 2000's the base of wrestling fans was expanded. But without the nWo-WCW struggle there is no attitude era IMO. |

Same deal with Vince Russo, he made the Attitude era great in WWE because he had McMahon as a filter...Russo tried to create an "attitude era" in WCW 2000 but failed because there was no McMahon to filter out all his crap. |

For me WCW started going downhill when you had Wolfpack and Black and White... when Sting and Luger joined the nWo it was like WHAT? The last two years was just wasted basically.
nWo couuld never be faces or love hate bad guys. Sting and Luger were the epitome of WCW's good guys and then they joined the more fan favorite version of the nWo and it was just like WHAT. Jericho was so awesome back in WCW. |

the big problem with wwf right now is that there is no one to push them to greatness. wwf is king dog and they dont have to be inovative any more. its kind of sad. yes vince will always have the 80s and the boom that came with hogan. no one can take that away from him. |

I hate the most is wrestling patents.
Vince owns every major wrestling trademark. Its hard for other conpanies to compete without having off the wall gimmick characters. You cant have another four horsemen anywhere. You cant have anythibg resembling an nwo. TnA got creative and called the old nwo "The BaNd" and a new Flair group "Fourtune". |
