When did Depp become so toxic at the box office? I know many of his post original trilogy Pirates movies weren't huge grossers, but even stuff like Public Enemies that kind of left audiences and critics divided made fairly good box office (200 million worldwide).

Then along came Sleepy Hollow which was a surprise hit and he was suddenly box office gold. Pretty much every movie he made in the last decade was either a modest success(Secret Window, Blow, From Hell, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, Public Enemies, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, The Tourist, Rango) or a blockbuster smash(the Pirates series, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland). Plus he nabbed 2 Best Actor nods in that timeframe. Then along came Dark Shadows and he's back to being box office poison again. I think it's because the oddball roles he keeps taking have grown tiresome as well as some of his recent films being absolute crapfests like Transcendence. Granted, I thought some of his big hits in the past 10 years like Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory weren't particularly good either, but I think maybe people are just getting bored with him as an actor. |

They had a preview for this when we went to see THG back in November. The trailer got a few laughs from the audience. I'll check it out when it comes to the cheap theater. For $3 on Wednesdays, the cheap theater here really given itself a nice update. I just don't want to give Gwenyth Paltrow too much of my money.
