Default Do you think you will ever loose interest in collecting?

Do you ever think this hobby of collecting blu-ray might burn you out? Do you think you will be doing it for a long time or have ever considered it was a waste of time doing? Why do you collect the many dvds and blu-rays that you have?

I'll always be collecting home video, because I love to do so and I love having all my favorites and then some at my disposal in the best way possible. And there will always be more to collect.

I either love the movie itself, the artwork on the case, or the price. Have been collecting since I was a child. Never have and never will stop.

I don't think I'd ever get tired of it. I love film, and once I get all the back catalogue titles I want I'll still buy anything new that I love as well. So I don't see myself getting bored or stopping anytime soon

I hope it will burn me out and I hope I lose interest in "consuming", because any money-spending hobby that gets out of hand is a hobby I would like to curve. It would be nicer to stick to hobbies that didn't include spending as much money as buying movies (such as doing art or doing something more social). I have done it so long, starting with VHS tapes in which it has become more of a habit. I had just slowed down on buying DVDs before converting to blu-ray, and now the movie-buying had increased again. But at least with blu-rays, I'm more selective than how I was with buying DVDs.

I always try to tell myself that I really don't need to buy the dvds or blu-rays that I can rent easily, and I should just stick to re-watchable imports if I have to buy something.

Although many people may not admit it or even be honest with oneself, a lot of people seem to think that if we don't consume (collect), how can we be true movie fans? There are many movie fans that don't buy a single DVD or blu-ray. It's the same as having the "book library." Traditionally, if one shows off a big library of books, it supposedly shows how well-read a person is. The same goes with the movies. Most of us in here do need to display their collections to their friends, family, internet peeps, etc. If we didn't have the urge to show off, our blu-ray collections probably would be a lot smaller. But that's the way we are brought up in the Western world - consuming and showing off what we have is a form of socializing.

I wont stop buying movies, but i could see myself buying less in the future. I bought 1100 dvds in 6 years and 231 bd in 3 years.

Movies are part of everyones lives for their entire lives.
In that context, no one will ever get tired of collecting blus.

At the same time, one may get tired of buying blus just for the sake of it.
This is happening already to me, and from now on I am going to buy blus only for movie I really love (actually i have been always doing it) and try to kepp my collection under 100 titles.

When I first started collecting blus I went crazy buying any blu that I could come across or was on sale. Now I realize most of my blind buys I probably wont watch again, so I just by my favorite films now. I haven't stopped collecting, I just do it in more moderation now.

Beta - Everytime I see your Avatar I actually think for a second that you might actually be Eric . Then I remember looking at your house and home theater setup and I know better.

Home theater in general is a fun hobby for me. Part of that excitement comes from upgrading equipment and part of it comes from adding to the movie collection. There's always something to look forward to in this hobby, though our budgets would likely beg to differ...haha!

Blu-ray will be my fourth (VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, BD) and final "collector's" format. I will continue buying BD's until I have all of the titles I want. Will 4K, 8K, 1024K, etc. offer a dramatic improvement? I think not. BD is excellent and I don't feel as though I need anything better in the future.
