I am looking to upgrade my Sony KDL 40s4100 tv for about $1000. The TV is 1080p, 60hz. I use the tv in the bedroom and keep it dark in there. I have a Time Warner HD cable box hooked to it as well as an Xbox 360 for games and Netflix, a Sony Blu-ray player 350 model, and occasionally hook my Vaio laptop to it via hdmi. The complaints I have about my Sony TV are, this thing puts out a lot of heat, it doesn't have great blacks, Xbox 360 gaming with fast action shows tears in the screen. I have surround sound so I am not worried about the sound quality of tv speakers. I have read up on all the new models and I still can't decide. I almost bought an LED edge lit style and I really like how thin and how little heat they put out, but I am worried about noticing screen uniformity as I use it in a very dark room. I have checked them out in the stores, but it is hard to tell there. I think going to 120hz will help in my video gaming? I am looking at 40" minimum and 46" maximum, but would rather get a better 40" for a grand than get a lesser 46".
What advice do you guys have for me? Thanks. I don't know if there is an tv for $1000 that puts out little heat and also has good screen uniformity. I think I might have to compromise somewhere. |

I have seriously considered plasmas b/c of the deep blacks for viewing in a dark room, plus they are less expensive than LCDs in general. Is the heat output equal to that of the average LCD or more?
Not to get too far off track, but I do also have two Samsung Computer Monitors and one is a 22" 1680x1050 LCD display and the Other is a Samsung 23" 1920x1080 LED LCD display which is very thin and puts off hardly any heat compared to the plain LCD monitor. They both are good monitors, but the LED can get brighter and more vibrant looking colors. After comparing those two monitors, I starting considering LED TVs and thought I was going to definitely get one, but then I hear about all the flashlighting people have complained about so I decided to research more. I haven't spent nearly as much time researching plasmas as I have LCDs and LED LCDs, but I will dedicate some time to do this soon. THanks for your input kpkelly. |

If you are going to go for an LED-LCD, you generally want to get one with local dimming and NOT edge-lit dimming. That will give you very very good blacks (similair or in some cases better than plasma's).
The problem is the LED-LCD's with local dimming are much more expensive at the moment. |
