Help with choosing a receiver

I've been looking at receivers off and on for the past 3 months and keep coming up empty. I have a 52 inch Sony XBR 9 with a PS3, Xbox 360 Elite, Directv HD DVR, Toshiba HD DVD all running via HDMI and a Wii running via component. I've never owned a receiver so a brand choice isnt there, ive just always owned Sony televisions. I'd like to stay around $500 for the receiver, 4 HDMI inputs is of course a must. In an effort to "future proof", 3D capability is an option I would like to have as well. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.
