Default The "2013 New Year's ResoBLUtion" Thread

List the movies you don't own yet as of January 1st, 2013 on blu-ray but have wanted for a while/long time, and are determined to buy/own it at some point this year. At the end of the year, you can check back and see if the movies you mentioned finally made its way into your collection somehow and then you can either be satisfied in your achievement or cringe at the amount of $$$ you've spent to satisfy an addiction.

I decided to make this thread because last night I was looking at my Amazon Shopping List, and saw blu's that I "added" to the list 3-4 years ago that I STILL have yet to own. I normally put stuff on there as a reminder to buy it later at some point. I did check some off the list, but I'm amazed some of the movies I've always liked and have a lot of replay value for I still do not have in my possession.

Qualifications:
  • A movie you've held off on buying for a long time because the timing or price wasn't right.
  • A movie that was low priority on your "to-buy" list for months/years, but because you've bought mostly all the ones that were ahead of it, its purchase is imminent.
  • A movie you've always liked and yet you still have no idea why you don't have it in your collection yet.
  • A movie that has never been released on blu-ray before but will be at some point this year. (Ex: Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
  • A movie that you've always liked/been fond of but just never really got around to buying it.
  • A potential blind buy that you've heard nothing but great things about for a long time but never had it in you to pull the trigger.

Exclusions:
  • Any new movie hitting the theaters this calender year, and will have a subsequent blu-ray release later in the year (or Q1 of 2014).
    • Ex: Man of Steel or Iron Man 3
  • Any recent movie that's being released on blu-ray this year that was released in theaters at the end of 2012.
    • Ex: Taken 2, Silver Linings, Flight, Lincoln, Skyfall
    • I don't consider a 3D re-release like Monsters Inc. to be a "recent" movie since the actual movie itself is over 10 years old. So feel free to list Monsters Inc. 3D on your list as well.

My list, in no particular order. Just looking at this list I compiled... it's going to take a LOT of $$$ and motivaiton to go along with the new movie blu-rays I already am going to purchase this year (Looper, Dredd, Skyfall, Taken 2, Lincoln, Wreck it Ralph, Argo, Man of Steel...)
  • Big Fish – Absolutely love this movie. Came close to pulling the trigger on it several times but money or some shiny new blu-ray came out at the same time so it just kept getting pushed back. I am definitely going to buy it this year.
  • The Departed – Very entertaining movie. One of those movies I usually watch when it comes on FX almost all the time. No idea why I never got around to buying it since I saw it for years in Best Buy’s $7 Blu-Ray bin. I’m convinced I’m going to get the steelbook version of it very very soon.
  • Citizen Kane – I’ve never seen it before. Yep. I feel terrible that the only reason the word “rosebud” is in my pop culture vernacular is because it was the cheat code for unlimited money in the original “The Sims” game on PC. I’ve put this high on my to buy list for 2013. Also going to put Casablanca to go with this.
  • Toy Story 1/2/3 – Part of my childhood. Had all the toys and everything when I was younger. All 3 will be enrollment title purchases when I join the DMC in a few weeks. Have no idea why I have yet to purchase any of these. I must buy these before I buy any of the missing Pixar flicks I don’t own yet.
  • Tron Legacy – Visually stunning movie with an awesome soundtrack. I’ve kind of held off on buying it because I’m undecided about which version to buy: The 2D, the 3D pack, or the Tron Collection pack that includes the original movie. I’ve watched this movie on Starz HD hundreds of times the last 2 years. No more waiting. I will be a user.
  • Equilibrium – For the longest I’ve wanted to buy it but there was never an actual release in USA. Didn’t feel like buying the movie from overseas. Now that it has an actual release, I will definitely be purchasing this. Lots of replay value for me.
  • Friday / V for Vendetta – Good movies for me. I’ve seen each for $7 at Target, $7 at Best Buy but have never been able to pull the trigger yet for some reason. They both are a part of 3 packs now.
  • Dumb and Dumber – One of my childhood favorites lol. My brother and I used to tape it when it’d come on TBS/TNT after Braves baseball or WCW… You’d think with it being as low as $4.99 at Best Buy how could I have let it slip this far? I have no idea.
  • Remember the Titans – I could recite this movie verbatim when I was 10. I’m going to make an effort to impulse buy it this year.
  • Steven Seagal Originals: Hard 2 Kill, Above the Law, Out for Justice. They’re all dirt cheap, yet I don’t know why I haven’t pulled the trigger on these. Lots of entertainment value for these just to see Steven Seagal sprinting and getting out alive in his 1 vs. 15 bad guys fight scenes.
  • 2001 A Space Odyssey – Saw it for the first time last year on Turner Movies Classic. The quality on it was subpar for it being on the HD channel. But I’ve read awesome remarks about the blu-ray.. Going to buy it soon.
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit – Saw this once when I was a kid. Don’t remember all of it. Will be a first day buy for me so I can watch it in its entirety. I remember more of Space Jam than I do this movie sadly.
  • No Country for Old Men – Man. This blu-ray is dirt cheap everywhere: Bottom of the $7 best buy bin, in the Wal Mart clearance bin. Such a fantastic movie and everytime I pick it up in the store, I’ve yet to walk with it in my purchase bag.
  • Daniel Day Lewis Movies – I finally snatched up Last of the Mohicans on Black Friday at Wal-Mart for $3.99 after refusing to pay $15.99 for it for a long time. Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood are on my to buy list. I hope they will be on sale when Lincoln is released, as it will give me an excuse to buy them with Lincoln.
  • A Christmas Story – It comes on TBS 24 hours on Christmas Day. I’ve never been able to sit there and watch it in its entirety. Once I buy the blu-ray this year I will watch it and be able to appreciate it.
  • The Sandlot – One of my most used VHS tapes when I was a kid. Am going to buy this movie for sure.
Other Notables that I will strive to purchase this year:
  • Braveheart – Never seen.
  • We Were Soldiers – Loved it.
  • The Patriot – Loved it.
  • Moon & Sunshine – Good sci-fi flicks.
  • The Goonies / Gremlins 1 & 2
  • O Brother, Where Art Thou? (R.I.P. Pappy O’Daniel)
  • 50/50 - Blind Buy.
  • 12 Angry Men & To Kill a Mockingbird - Loved them both.
  • Minority Report - Sci-fi favorite for me.
  • The Running Man - Love post-civilized society movies like this.
  • The Delta Force - Chuck Norris.
  • Bloodsport & Kickboxer - JCVD!
  • Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix
  • Mortal Kombat & Annihilation - Annihilation was blah, but I want to own both anyways.
  • Lost in Translation - Bill Murray FTW!
  • Evita
  • Armageddon/ The Rock / Independence Day - WELCOME TO EARF.
  • Big Daddy - Hip, Hip Hop, Hip Hop Anonymous.
  • Black Hawk Down - Epic.

This year is about cutting back and saving my money.

I have all of my Wishlist added in numerous spots so whenever I see a really good deal, I'll pick it up.

For now, I'll just focus on buying a few new releases here and there.

If I somehow hit the lottery, then they'll all be bought

Anyhow, I noticed the theme of that thread was kind of different from mine. My thread is about the blu's you've been procrastinating on for a long time and never bought. (Kind of like the folks who make New Years resolutions about going to the gym and getting in shape, then stop after 2-3 weeks before February even gets here).

Just reading on there, some people are answering that they won't be buying as much, or will be spending less on blu's.

I'm interested in seeing what movies people here don't have yet and why they haven't bought it yet to see if I'm there are other slackers or blu-ray procrastinators out there like myself. Hell I might even take a blu from someone's wishlist and add it to my own.

lol same boat here.

I finally bought Shawshank, Last of the Mohicans, and Pandorum after holdilng off for a long time. Shawshank was a decent steel book, Mohicans was $3.99 on BF, and Pandorum was $4 at Target.

I'm going to try and pick up Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale Blu/DVD combos in the U&S deal.
