Default Best Buy Weekly Ad 9/9/07 - 9/15/07

Just looked at the weekly BB and thats in the Sunday paper and there is no mention of Blu-ray. There is an add for a HD-DVD player and you get 2 free movies with purchase (300 and Blades of Glory are shown). There is also an ad for HD-DVDs. Free $10 BB gift card with the purchase of 2 HD-DVDs (The Departed, V for Vendetta, GoodFellas, Happy Feet, Enter The Dragon, and Letters from Iwo Jima are choices).

NO BLU-RAY MOVIES, NO BLU-RAY PLAYERS, AND NO PS3 in the entire Best Buy ad.

What's up with this??? I do not like what I see.

I wouldn't worry too much...as I mentioned in another thread the local Best Buy by me is starting to show more love for Blu-Ray simply because they are selling much better than HD-DVD.

The ads for Best Buy are sometimes paid by the companies that sell product through them. I have seen ads from them where they just mentioned Blu-Ray and not even show anything HD-DUD related.

Ive noticed that the bestbuys here in canada do that too sometimes. some weeks theres virtually no mention of blurays or ps3s, and some weeks they have huge ps3/bluray adds. Same goes for 360/hddvd. It just depends on the week i guess.

First and foremost, I am all blu, completely, 100% blu. I work at Best Buy. Best Buy does not intentionally try to screw Blu-ray. I can tell you that BBY sells more blu discs and more stand alone players. And here is an idea try to ponder. Best Buy is a business trying to make money, that is the approach of most business, to be profitable. Blu-ray is sell so well with little advertising which is ideal for a business because it is saving on ads and still profiting. HDDud is not doing so well. So BBY focuses on an area to improve its business. It advertises HDDud trying to improve the sales on the units. Trust me, last week the HD-A20s were $200 dollars, we didn't sell one. I sold two BDP-S300s at regular price. Toshiba is going to need to literally hand them to people soon.

Go Blu.

Thanks fo the info. I agree with you, Tocrapa needs all the advertising they can get. I'm sure they paid BB good $$$ for the ads. Sony must make sure that they at least promote the PS3 each week and let everyone know that it plays BDs.

Yeah, it's a good thing that flip-flopper Kerry was defeated by Bush...just think what bad shape this country would be in if that happened!

I am new to the blu-ray forum, but I am an avid user and fan of PS3 and Blu-Ray and at present I have 12 bluray movies and 2 ps3 games and love them all. I work at my local Wal-Mart (which doesn't push either format very well) however I was able to sell several PS3 and talk several customers into taking their HD-DVD players back to Best Buy and purchasing a PS3 and several blu-rays instead.

Blu-Ray - This is truly Living!!

Go Blu.
Please keep pushing Blu at your store. BD will win out and you'll be doing your customers a massive favor.

I saw the ad in Sunday's paper to, maybe BB is selling off their stock of hddvd players in order to go BD exclusive. he he that would be cool

Go Blu.

If this is what Best Buy is doing, they need new marketing people.

Any marketer worth their salt know to push the product that is selling well and simply stop stocking the low seller.

Best Buy, and other retailers, need to _wake the hell up_ to the reality that if they don't pick a side (in this case, the much higher performing Blu-ray), they are going to _screw themselves_ when customers just do digital downloading instead of buying ANYTHING from them.

As I stated in another thread my local Best Buy is favoring Blu and is planning on elimating all HD-DVD in stock by slashing prices and not carrying them at all after 07.
