Theatrical Trailer (HD)

It happens with startling swiftness and violence. An armed cadre seizes state control. Fortunately, a coup d’état can’t happen here. Or can it?

A classic of suspense directed by John Frankenheimer (The Manchurian Candidate, Ronin) and written for the screen by Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone), Seven Days in May tautly explores that possibility. At odds are a popular general and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman (Burt Lancaster) and an unpopular president (Fredric March) with a pacifist agenda. At stake is the survival of the Republic. A vigilant colonel (Kirk Douglas) uncovers the scheme. But are the seven fateful days ahead enough time to derail a takeover? The clock is ticking.

Day 1 for me.

Terrific film and book. Screenplay by Rod Serling with several terrific performances.

This will fit in nicely with Seconds and The Manchurian Candidate in my library.

I'm keeping my copy until Executive Action comes out on blu-ray. Makes a nice companion piece to JFK.

Excellent!! Such an underrated thriller, a great companion piece to The Manchurian Candidate, I'm shocked it's not more respected.

I love the retro cover, the DVD just has a photoshop mix of production stills.

I'll be glad to finally retire another DVD snapper case, after retiring Wait Until Dark and Time After Time recently too. Can't wait for the day when I have zero snappers on my shelf.

I'm not compelled to upgrade my snapper DVD (at least at the moment), but for those who don't know, this one's an absolute corker folks. One of my all-time favorite suspense movies with an unimpeachable cast (seriously, notice your jaw drop as you read down that list of names) and taut direction by the legendary Frankenheimer.

The climactic showdown between Lancaster and March is the stuff of cineastes' wet dreams. Probably the best verbal exchange between screen icons.

Don't miss this one.

March was most convincing playing a president. He had all the gravitas needed.

Wonderful news! An excellent film matching great story-telling with a great cast. This came out in close proximity to the Cuban missile crisis and captures with some accuracy a time when high-level political intrigue was assumed and when a belief that unbelievable events were probably not unbelievable at all was not at all uncommon. Not sure 'paranoia' was a factor here. Having just recently narrowly avoided the real risk of a nuclear exchange the world was in fact a rather scary place. Kind of like today.

Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster head-to-head in glorious hi-def black-and-white wide-screen? It doesn't get better!

This is spectacularly good news.

A brand new transfer of a fantastic film that's been on my wishlist for as long as I've had a wishlist?

What's not to love.

WAC, forgive me for ever doubting you.
