Default [REC] Help

Sorry if this is in the wrong place to post, but is their a Region A friendly release of [REC] anywhere? It really annoys me how Sony only released it on DVD.

I assume by Region A friendly you mean:
- Region A or Region ABC (i.e. not region locked)
- With English subtitles
- And in a resolution capable of being displayed on NTSC TVs

Unfortunately, no such release exists. There are two close ones:
- the Japanese release is region A, in 1080p, but no English subtitles
- the Spanish release is region ABC, with English subtitles, but is in 1080i/50 which is unplayable in most players and on most TVs

If you have a player that can covert PAL->NTSC (like the Oppo BDP-83), then the Spanish release will work. Or if you can speak Spanish, the Japanese release will work. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. All the other worldwide releases are even worse (region locked, no subs, incompatible resolution, etc.)

Well that's lame, thanks for the input man!

Don't sell the dvd short. I managed to find a copy and was totally impressed with the PQ of the dvd. Played on an Oppo 983H dvd player and watched on a 65" plasma. It really looked good.

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD80. It's region locked A but it can handle PAL format. I have Y tu mamá también from Australia which have all the extras at 480i and play correctly, also tried with PS3 but didn't work.

I don't post a whole lot around here, but I had to put my lurking on pause to say this got a good chuckle out of me.

Anyone picked up the talked about Argentina version?

http://www.dvdventas.com/index/modul...99994/rec.html

I was looking at the specs and saw the following:

1080p
English subs
***Region 0 "Multizona para todo el Mundo"
Espanol DTS 5.1

But looks like the price is $58.30. Quite steep.

I have the Blu-Ray of [REC] from Spain. It's region B locked though...That's why I love having a region free player haha.

Looks really good for 1080i and the Spanish 5.1 track sounds great. Pretty aggressive track for a DTS track. Dialogue is mixed very well throughout even throughout the chaos. The surrounds are used very well.

I bought this for $21 shipped a couple years ago. It has English subtitles and everything.

If a US release hit the market with a 1080P transfer and a DTS-HD MA track, then I'd double dip. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the Spanish Blu-Ray.

Haha to be honest, the entire reason I got a region free player was for this movie and Eden Lake. Then, my region B locked collection began to grow haha.

Yeah, I've been unbelievably busy with work lately that I haven't had the chance to get on really often. Things are starting to clear up a bit so I should be on more. I was sick for a bit, so that really made my work pile up from needing to make it up. Otherwise, I'm good!

How have you been?

For those that are interested, here are some pictures I took a while back of my [REC] Blu-Ray: Now of course these look better in person than they do in these pictures (a lot better in person) but this gives you the general idea.

[Show spoiler]

The main menu is filled with clips from the movie, but this is just one quick still of it showing the quality.

Just to show the information that's displayed on the player while the movie is playing.

Yeah, I've heard so much about this movie and I'm dying to see it. I saw a trailer on youtube and I loved it. I'm trying to find the cheapest multi-region player out so that I can see this.

I just came across the Sherwood BDP-5004 for like $130 and I'm seeing that it's region free. I don't know if it has the built in pal to ntsc converter that the Oppo's and Sharp's have.

The Spanish blu of [REC] is actually region free but it's 1080i/50HZ.

Oh and I agree that the audio is pretty good for a DTS track.

Good to know that the disc is RF. Now i just need to find out if that Sherwood does the pal to ntsc conversion.

I recommend that you save up for a stronger region free player. Get an Oppo or something. You won't regret it. I was so happy when I got my region free player because I never even have to remotely think about importing movies because it really doesn't matter what region the disc is anymore. Now, I research what country has the best looking Blu-Ray of the movie and get that one. Of course, I don't go back to my collection and re-buy them all, but now I try to get whichever country offers the best PQ and AQ for the particular release. Or there are some countries that are the only places that offer a certain cut of a movie I like that isn't available on the US disc.

I don't hear many good things about the Sherwood players. I've never had one, but everyone who I know who has purchased one regretted it...

Is the UK release identical to the Spanish release?

Let's see...Sony is sitting on [REC] for the US and Magnolia is sitting on [REC] 2 for the US....hell we haven't even received a [REC] 2 DVD yet! This came out back in July in theaters, I wonder what's taking so long for at least an announcement.

I've considered the Oppo's before but they are just soooo expensive. I'm really only looking for one for a few movies, these [REC] ones being 2 of them.

Nowhere to get a reasonably priced Oppo 83 or else I would. I need to see these movies.

What player do you have?
