Default Sherbourn 7-200 Multi-Channel amp...

Any thoughts on the company & in particular their amps. I can pick up the 7-200 for a great price. Thanks.

Seems like a good company with solid products, based on their website.

Here's a thread from AVSforum.com about them: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1081989

From post #45 by LCSeminole:

"Apparently Sherbourn has decided to go the OEM route, decide for yourselves.

Sherbourn 7-150 looks to be an Emotiva UPA-7

Sherbourn 5-200 looks to be an Emotiva XPA-5
http://www.sherbourn.com./coming-soon/67
http://emotiva.com/xpa5.shtm

Sherbourn 2-160 looks to be an Emotiva UPA-2

Internally the solid state electronics look to be almost identical."

A good friend of mine is a dealer & he can offer it to me for a killer price. I'd rather keep the final price a private matter for various reasons.

It is a lot like the XPA-5, wow. However it has an even better SNR ratio than does the XPA-5:

Sherborun 5-200

1 watt > 119db
Full Power > 116db

XPA-5

1 watt > 97db
Full Power > 111db

....what do they regularly retail for?

If I'm not mistaken I think the 7-200 retails for a little over 3K. The 5-200 is not a mono block design...all channels share a single large transformer. I'm interested in the 7-200 which is a true 7 channel mono block amp. Each amp having it's own transformer. The 7-200 has a few options that make it easy to bi-amp or even bridge 3 channels for a whopping 400>w powerhouse. The 7-200 is a completely different animal than the 5-200. The 5-200 is also a great amp, I'm more into the 7-200 though.

Well, if it is truly a 7 block monoblock amp, then $3,000 is a great price IMO. That sounds like it would be an excellent performer. What does the 5-200 go for, as I am interested in it's price point versus the Emo XPA-5?

I don't know what the 5-200 goes for...but I'm sure it's way more than the EMO XPA 5.

Thanks anyway.

* I'm sure it's more than what I pay for my excellent Emotiva XPA-5 and XPA-2 together though. My friend is also a dealer.
My final price is NOT a private matter for obvious reasons, and that price was not a killer price, but an AWESOMELY INCREDIBLE price!

You guys are making me feel bad. I can pick up the Sherbourn 7-200 from my local dealer (good friend) for $2300. I still haven't decided yet though. I've also been looking at the Wyred 4 Sound amps and the NAD M25. There are a lot of great multi-channel amps out there, it's just a matter of what I feel is the best price/performance combination. Not an easy decision. But so far I must say that the 7-200 is looking pretty dang good.

Your right...there's a big difference in the price between the Sherbourn 7-200 / 5-200 & the EMO XPA5. The 7-200 I believe is in a different league than both the 5-200 & the XPA5. Again it all comes down to what one feels is the best price/performance for any piece of gear. No decision is easy I'll tell you.

I've actually looked at them over on the EMO site. They get some stellar reviews for sure. But added up they are about $200 more than the Sherbourn 7-200 not to mention all the extra power cords & the real estate they would occupy. You never know though!!!

Stack 7 of them on top of one another, then you'll have a real "tower of power!"

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on a 5 channel amp...a Rotel RMB-1095. I picked it up for $950, 1yr old & mint condition. I figured for that price what the hell...if I don't like it (but I'm sure I will) I can turn around & resell it for what I paid for it. I know I was looking at Sherbourn, NAD M25, & Wyred 4 Sound amps but I just couldn't pass this deal up.

Well Congratulations! ...The Rotel RMB-1095 is a fantastic multich amp that you got for an amazingly great price. This thing is real heavy (it has wheels on the back) and VERY POWERFUL. And SUPERB sounding too.
You cannot have asked any better than this.

Well thanks! There's a lot of great multi-channel amps out there for sure. Over the years I've always had my eye on the Rotel RMB-1095 amp especially after reading all the stellar reviews it received on a consistent basis. I was just never ready to pull the trigger on a MC amp until I finally convinced myself that for my situation of running a combo HT/2 channel system that it was the right fit for me. Then this deal popped up & what can I say...I had to do it!!! I'm sure I won't regret it.
