Angry Rant: disconnect network cable when watching Universal titles

I just got MacGrubber from Netflix, a title published by Universal, and when I put the movie in the player and loads, after a few seconds it says "Loading a fresh preview from the internet" and it doesn't let me cancel that or anything else for several seconds until it loads the damn video from the internet, and only then I can skip to the main menu.

Message to Universal: it's really aggravating that you waste our time loading previews that look like crap from the internet. If you want us to watch your previews, then put them in the disc. It's bad enough that you and all the other studios make us waste our time every time we put in a disc with that idiotic BD-J authoring mode instead of the far more efficient and fast HDMV. Don't come up with even more ways of wasting our time.

Lesson learned: from now on, I'll connect the network cable ONLY to download firmware updates.

Had the same problem with Green Zone the other day. Took almost 15 minutes to get to the main menu because of BD live.

I never have the cable connected in unless it's for updates.

I agree. I set my PS3 to ask me about allowing BD internet connection every time I put in a disc because of this. Every once in a great while I download BD Live special features, but forced trailer downloads just take too long on my DSL, especially if it's a new release and their servers are swamped. Just not worth it imo. (and I agree about the BD Java format, I'm not much of a fan of that either.)

My Sony Blu-ray player is connected for Netflix use. But it always asks me if I want to connect to BD live if a disc trys.
