With 2011 right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to discuss what you have learned about Blu-Rays, movies, etc in 2010... My top 5
1) A movie as unbelievably hyped as Avatar could actually meet my expectations ![]() 2) I got too hyped into the 3-D thing. Avatar was a blast in theaters, but the cheap cash-ins are killing it. The 3-D tv's were pretty disappointing when I finally got to see one for the first time ![]() 3) While 2010 (personally) was a complete sh*t fest for summer movies, I discovered how wonderful Scott Pilgrim vs The World was, and Clash of the Titans remains a huge guilty pleasure of mine ![]() 4) Did You Hear About The Morgans? was one of the worst movies ever made. Thanks, girlfriend. 5) Chris Nolan somehow followed up TDK with an equally brilliant movie. |

considering this was the biggest year for blu for me i got a couple things i've learned and know i'll be bring into the newyear.
1. dont day 1 purchase everything, see the actual blu you want and set a price tracker of what your willing to spend and just wait for the blu to come to you. 2. dont buy any new releases from october until black friday, most NR were on sale this black friday and a couple really hurt me to see them drop 10 bucks less then what i paid not even 2 weeks ago. 3. its always better to regret buying a exclusive than it is to regret not buying it when you could, this would go to all the steelie collectors. next year i'm going to bite the bullet on any steel i like and down the road i regret it i know i can easily sell it to someone for atleast what i paid so no harm no foul. 4. theres no need for blind buys anymore. with blu-rays now at my ciosk at walmart for 1.50 a night i no longer have to waiste money on mediocre movies that werent really worth buying in the 1st place. 5. the most important thing i learned, DO NOT BUY BLU'S THAT ARE JUST GOING TO COLLECT DUST. there was a point where i would buy any movie i thought was just ok and it struck me when i went to look for what to watch and i was actually refusuing to watch a ton of stuff in my collection. IMO a collection should only be movies you will have no problem watching anytime unless ofcoarse you just watched it. and all the money saved off this will ultimately make you feel alot better. thats what i've learned and ihope i pick up more tricks along the way. |

I learned that I am not the only person who gets very upset and agitated when their favorite movies show up on blu with sub par PQ and AQ. I mean I know I get severly p o'd when this happens and I am glad other movie fans are with me. Only then can we hopefully send a message to the studios that , "We are mad as hell and we aren't gonna take it anymore!"

I learned to avoid stylized movies. With just a few exceptions, most of them look terrible on blu-ray with their unnaturally colored tints.
Also learned that if I really like a movie, I will rent it for 99cents at my local video shop just to make sure PQ has not been completely destroyed in the making of the film or when doing the transfer. For me at least, HD means first and foremost, a pleasurable and sharp image on my tv, not a blurry or tinted mess or a movie that some directors feel needs the camera in shaky mode for 90% of the run time such as the last two Bourne movies. 2010 was my first year of Blu-ray Player ownership, and I learned a lot in the process.
Quote:
I learned to be more selective of catalog titles. I learned Disney movies are still ****ing magical as all get out. And look AMAZING in High-Def. Mother****ing Whimsy all up in here. I also learned the all mighty power of Disney Manufacture Coupons, and how they've now made me a slave to day-one Disney purchases. I learned that animation in general is amazing in High-Def. And has justified my jump to blu-ray all on its own. Last edited by Jim Purcell; 11-30-2010 at 09:02 AM. |
