Default BD models

when are they going to stray away from the 1996 DVD player look?...

these things look like giant treasure chests...except for the Sharp model, which is still kinda bulky...

is this their attempt to milk it again?..obviously?...

the newer models will have more features in the 2nd generation

then the 3rd generation will have the new features upgraded with the new computer technology in regards to compatability....and on top of it...be slimmer....

4th generation will just be alot slimmer...much like current DVD players...

greedy bastages..

LOL, I share in your disgust for the larger players. OTOH I hate how tiny the latest DVD players have become. Still, somewhere inbetween would be nice. The Pioneer doesn't seem overly big IMO.

Good idea.

Honestly, for me, it comes down to either the Sony or the Pioneer Elite if I give in and do something I've never done before: Early adopt.

exactly...and on top of that I'll be purchasing a ps3....so I'll be all bluray'd out...

I want to support this as much as possible...

I read an article on a bluray player yesterday and readers were replying to it....and they said "only 1200.00?"...in response to what the writer put down...

they are saying the BD player doesn't stand a chance...

boy are these kids in for a rude awakening....

why else would only the lower end DVD player manufacturers be in on HD DVD and everyone above them be in the BD market?...

I wish this were coming first, just because I'd like to see how good of a BR player it really is and see if I'm satisifed enough to hold out on a stand alone player for a couple of generations or so like I know I should and probably still will, prudently. (If I don't give in to lust and impulse. )

That's because some of those people have already bought into the same Microsoft sponsored HD-DVD propoganda you're seeing run unchallenged on certain forums.

They see Toshiba firesaling and essentially giving away their mediocre hardware at $500, which is unheard of for a first gen, first run product like these, and it's the same whiners that want to have their cake and eat it, too.

Good, high end CE cost a certain amount of money, especially first run, first gen. You get what you pay for.

We'd all love it if we could get $500 Pioneer Elite BR players and $10 software, but that just isn't reality.

I firmly believe the PS3 BD player will be to BD players out on the market what the PS2 DVD player was to DVD players out on the market...

well, maybe a little better as it's their product and would want people to at least consider it their player and worth purchasing movies for...

and I agree on the 500 price tag being ridiculously cheap..."you get what you pay for"....

DVD players were 1000.00 + when they 1st came out...

for an HD player...this sounds inaccurate for a price-tag...but when you consider there is actually competition this time and they have the cards stacked against them...the price is about right..

Agreed 100 percent.

Let me bring myself out of fantasy land for a minute and tell you what my most likely plan of attack will be here:

The PS3 will be my first BR player. I will use it to coast through first and possibly even second generation.

The only way this will change is if some things settle out (like the outright end of this so-called format war) and if I really am just outright dissatisfied with the BR movie playback performance of the PS3. I suspect I won't be, but in that same breath: Game systems make for terrible DVD players, so I'm going to be very realisitic and see what's what.

Patience truly will be a virtue in this case.

*keeps daydreaming about the Pioneer Elite Player....*
