Default Warner Brothers rebooting Buffy

Quote:
Atlas Entertainment announced today it is rebooting the beloved franchise, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Warner Bros. Pictures. Atlas' Charles Roven and Steve Alexander will produce the feature film alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (The Ring, How to Train Your Dragon, The Departed). Whit Anderson is writing the script.

Warner Bros. Pictures optioned the rights from creators Fran and Kaz Kuzui, and from Sandollar Productions (Sandy Gallin and Dolly Parton), for Atlas and Vertigo to produce. Buffy the Vampire Slayer first appeared as a film in 1992, subsequently becoming a cult hit and spawning the wildly popular television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz, among many others.

"Whit approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy," said Roven. "There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return to the big screen. We're thrilled to team up with Doug and Roy on a re-imagining of Buffy and the world she inhabits. Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."

Whit Anderson is represented by CAA, Wirehouse Entertainment and Julian Zajfen at Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie & Stifflemen.

Joss Whedon isn't involved?

Hmm, it won't be the same, that's for certain.

Kinda happy it's not based on the TV series as I think that has just gone way down hill with season 8 comic and I didn't really care for the 6th and 7th season so I'm not sure how a movie based on the show would be like. I'm looking forward to this and hope it turns out good and if not I still have the TV show to watch.

Yeah I started laughing at that part as if it's not the TV show Buffy most people don't give a damn about a new Buffy movie.

I'll wait and see how it goes. It seems like the scriptwriter was a fan of the show and gets what worked about but even if she writes a good script the people in charge could still change it/make it suck.

Fran and Kaz Kuzui made the original movie which was hardly a cult hit. While they have the rights to Buffy, no other character on the tv show appeared in the movie. So if that rabid fan base was hoping for an Angel or a Willow or a Giles or a Spike they r out of luck. I looked up Whit(ney) Anderson on IMDB to see if it was likely to be a comedy like the original or a more serious take, but there were no writing credits.

"The thing that was so wonderful about ‘Buffy’ is what made it special was so timeless,” Anderson said. “The deep struggle she had with duty and destiny, that tug between what you’re supposed to be doing and what you want to be doing. The fate of the world is on her shoulders, but some days she wakes up, and she just doesn’t want to do it. And are we doomed and destined to love someone? That conflict was very interesting to me. Those are the things I loved about her and her world. She also represents — like all the heroes — something empowering for us. She reminds us of what we could be if we were in our top form, the best of us if we were at our very best, and even then we still see the vulnerability and doubts she has inside. That’s where we all connect.” - Whit Anderson

Joss Whedon responds to Buffy news. I find it funny how he is doing the same exact thing with the Avengers that they are doing with Buffy. Taking 2 old franchises and giving them a new storyline for the big screen yet he thinks he's not doing that at all.

Obviously she enjoyed the tv show. Me too. There was more to the tv show than Buffy, a lot more. What she is rebooting is the origin story I guess. That's what the Kristy Swanson movie was. People keep comparing this to Batman Begins. Well, yeah if u take out Alfred and Gordan and Raz Al Ghul. Maybe Kristy will sign up for the part. I saw her a couple years ago and she still looks good. Peewee Herman, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer and Luke Perry can be had as well. None of this makes it Buffy though. Sorry.

Its not really the same thing though. He's doing a comic book adaption of a world famous comic, this is a reboot made to cash in on Twilight mania. And The Avengers has NEVER been a movie or TV show so it's not a reboot at all

I know I just meant he was acting like the Avengers is an all new never before thought of idea while it's not. I do get that they aren't the same as like you said Avengers has never been done before and it's not a reboot while Buffy is. I do wonder how this will go against the vampire craze though as Buffy kills vampires and right now the vampire mania is all about teen vampires falling in love.

Buffy is my hero so I have to at least give it a shot. In some ways it's probably better to have fewer characters because it'll already be hard enough to do her right let alone everyone else. If it sucks, oh well it's probably not going to be considered Buffyverse canon anyways.

It's obviously going to be about her falling for a vampire and fighting the urge to kill him even though she knows she should. See that's the whole story right there! Where's my paycheck WB?

Yeah I don't know anything about the writer but I do have a feeling we will be getting a love story in there somewhere. I just hope it turns out to be good and not an all out supernatural comedy but more of like what the show was.

Why would you watch it? It's not really original. The reason the show was great was the cast of characters and Joss. Tale those away and your left with a now cliched Vampire story.

It's actually the opposite of a cliche. The dumb blonde who always dies in horror movies instead slays the monsters.
