Default Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 (JP)

Given the banding in the Lionsgate (US) release of Mockingjay Pt. 1, I was wondering if the Japanese release is any better visually.

I haven't been able to find much information on it except that Sony did the BD this time (Kadokawa did the first 2 films) and that the video bitrate is ~30mbps.

I have not had time to force myself to watch this, yet. However, the amount of supplements is simply appalling (there are over 400 minutes of video extras on the Premium Edition, PLUS the audio commentary) and if I remember correctly from spot-checking, only about 90 minutes of them are not in English. It vaults over the other editions by presenting the 2+ hour documentary on its own BD-50, and a second BD-50 contains interviews from the New York and Los Angeles premieres, and a 40+ minute Comic Con press conference, just to name a few of the extras.

Ah, I see. I'd like to hear your impressions of the film's PQ if/when you get around to watching it.

I placed an order for this last week and received my copy yesterday. I checked out 3 minutes of the rescue scene late last night, there is still some banding issues, however it's a massive improvement compared to my Australian disc.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, exactly, but for the first film, the U.S. 2xBD-50 set is probably what you want, unless another version is cheaper.

For the second film, the main advantage of the Japanese (Premium Edition) release is the option to watch both the IMAX version or a constant 2.40:1 version, each on its own BD-50. And while the IMAX version is exclusive to the Premium Edition, both the Premium and non-Premium sets also have all of the U.S. extras (including the Target exclusive extras) on a dedicated bonus disc.

But there are no additional English-language extras on the Japanese editions of the first two films, as far as I can tell (I only own the US edition of the first and the JP Premium Edition of the second).

For the third film, and latest video release, you get a quality A/V package, but Sony also upped the ante by including not just all of the US BD extras, but also additional English-friendly extras which are not on the Lionsgate US/UK editions or the Australian edition, and may well be exclusive to the Japanese release. So if you're a hardcore fan, you more than likely want the Japanese Premium Edition of the third film.

Thank you! Sorry about the wording, but this answered all my questions

Looks like Sony is going to be putting out a single-disc "SPE Best" budget release on March 23, 2016 according to Amazon JP.

Added to the database. Sony Japan can be sneaky with their priced-down re-issues sometimes, but in this case, the disc appears to be the same as the feature disc from the previous editions:

[Show spoiler]
Thanks for the additional info. I think my plan will be to stick with the US releases of the first two films, and get the JP single-disc of Mockingjay Pt. 1 in March with an eye to eventually buy the US release of it on Black Friday 2016 for ~$5 just for the sake of extras.

I'm pretty sure that the 3-disc release (catalog number BALL-80628) does have them all.
