Default Help me pick out a good TV series to start watching!

OK so I dont watch a tons of TV, just due to the fact I never have much time to get into them , with the hours I work.. But over the holiday and the past week I have been seeing alot of people talk about shows such as

--Weeds
--Breaking Bad
--Mad Men

Im sure theres alot more, but with those 3 as the main ones Ive seen over the past week and at $9.99 a season and very good reviews on this site Im gonna try a few out?

SO what do you guys think? Thanks much!!

I would watch Weeds as I haven't seen the other 2 but love Weeds. One of the best shows on TV I think with a great cast and plots.

Dexter is the best show on Television. Period. End o' story. Breaking Bad is really good too.

From those three, Breaking Bad would be my pick. I've blind bought Mad Men so I can't comment on that yet.

Other shows - LOST, Dexter, & Deadwood.

I blind bought Mad Men, so I can't recommend it yet. But it seems like a show people will either love or hate. It sounds like many people like Breaking Benjamin as well, and it seems more mainstream and more of a "safe" blind buy for the average person. and I've no stance on Weeds.

Even if you end up not liking whichever show(s) you choose, I'm sure you won't regret buying a whole season of any of those three series you listed at only $10.

But aside from those three, I love Lost and Modern Family. Lost, obviously you need to start from the beginning and watch every single episode to understand. If you end up liking Lost, trust me in saying that you will be truly hooked and will crank through as many episode possible to find out what happens next. I've stayed up till around 3 or 4 AM watching several episodes on hulu back to back because they were so enticing.

I'd also recommend Modern Family. It's a great comedy show, and like Lost, I love how they end their episodes with narration and insights on the show's point. It, unlike Lost, doesn't require you to watch every single episode to understand what's going on, but it's a fantastic show and I'd highly recommend it.

Yeah, if you want to see a show that was awesome for the first season and then sucked all the way to the most disappointing ending EVER, then watch lost.

imo

Weeds - a fun, quirky show. but after season 3 the show really goes downhill. and seasons 1-3 aren't even that great. interesting premise and story, but runs out of steam fast.

Mad Men - great everything: writing, directing, performances, atmosphere, cinematography, feel... but unless the idea of 1960's advertising executives excites you the show won't win you over. a slower, much more character based series. but even with all the plusses i couldn't even finish season 1. didn't interest me.

Breaking Bad - the same was Mad Men, but interesting and engaging. great story, original, fresh and exciting and doesn't feel like a standard television program.

imo LOST is the best show ever created and will never be topped: mystery, suspense, mind blowing stories and surprises, comedy, great characters, plot, performances and gives you a lot to think about and stays with you when you're not watching it.

Dexter is good - great at times - but each season suffers the exact same problems as the one before it.

Lost, Dexter and Deadwood

I knew there was more, and ppl would chime in

But like I said @ $10/ season on alot of them, I cant go wrong..

I just want something thats entertaining and fun to watch , but has that "adult" comedy/edge to it

Breaking Benjamin? I wanna watch that.

I really don't see Breaking Bad as mainstream at all though.

I haven't seen Breaking Bad, but I like Mad Men and Weeds. I prefer Weeds and there are more seasons out, but that's just me.

I'm a huge fan of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but of the two I would most definitely could not recommend Breaking Bad enough. Absolutely brilliant show. As I've said many many times, for me it's one of the top 5 shows of the last 10 years.

Haha whoops. I was thinking of a thing a local radio station does called Breaking Benjamin where they basically torture Benjamin and make him do crazy stuff until he "breaks".

Wait, so you thought it sucked after the first season but you still kept on watching? Even though it kept on sucking? Really?

Good little write up, thank you!

I suppose $30 for one of each season wont kill me.. the first season of anything might not be the best, but it will at least give me an idea behind the show and premise

whoa, slow down bud! what about netflix or hulu?
netflix has all the seasons of weeds available for streaming. and the lowest plan is like, $10 a month. anything than buying season 1 of every show! otherwise amazon has individual episodes for around $2 a piece. you could buy the pilot episodes (although, imo not all shows start off great, some take awhile to get going (but LOST does start off terrifically btw ) and see what you think of them, but netflix is the safest choice
