Default John Lennon's Last Days

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/68404/239168

Rolling Stone has released John Lennon's final interviews.

Quote:
Three days before John Lennon was killed, Jonathan Cott spent hours interviewing him for a planned cover story. The complete Q&A, which is running in the new issue of Rolling Stone — available on stands, as well as in the online archives — has never been published before now. On this page you can find our web-exclusive companion coverage to the piece — everything from audio clips from the interview to a gallery of Lennon and Ono’s years in New York.
RIP John

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennon

John is the featured article on Wikipedia today to mark the anniversary of his assassination.

Quote:
At around 10:50 pm on 8 December 1980, as Lennon and Ono returned to their New York apartment in The Dakota, Mark David Chapman shot Lennon in the back four times at the entrance to the building. Lennon was taken to the emergency room of nearby Roosevelt Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:07 pm.[122] Earlier that evening, Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for Chapman.[123]

Ono issued a statement the next day, saying "There is no funeral for John," ending it with the words, "John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him."[124] His body was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. Ono scattered his ashes in New York's Central Park, where the Strawberry Fields memorial was later created.[125] Chapman pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life; as of 2010, he remains in prison, having been repeatedly denied parole.[126][127]

On ESPN's Outside the Lines Sunday they had an interesting look into the Monday Night Football game the night Lennon died and the decision about whether they wanted to be the one to break the news. It was interesting because an ABC producer got in a minor motorcycle crash the night Lennon died and when he was being treated at the hospital Lennon got brought into the same hospital and the ABC producer overheard that Lennon died and called ABC to inform them, and that was how ABC broke the story. The OTL piece is in the link below:

I still remember when the story broke during that game. Simply shocking at the time.

I was listening to a special coverage on our local radio station this morning on the way to work regarding Lennon's anniversary. I learned a few new things before the days he died.

RIP, may your music be played on radio stations, and my iPod forever.

John was my favorite Beatle. R.I.P, Lennon. You're always going to be in my iPod and CD collection forever.

I commemorate this song for Lennon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv3ic6OOXns

On this day, the 30th Anniversary of his death, I look back and think why no other artist has come close to the emotion I felt that day....a total and complete sense of loss usually only reserved for members of one's family or close friends. I suspect it had to do with the fact he was murdered. I am not sure I would have felt the same way had his departure from this world been from natural causes.

John

That was very interesting, thanks. I was only 11 in 1980 and do not remember that day at all for some reason, and yet I do recall the assassination attempt on Reagan a year later rather vividly.

He was before my time but I've enjoyed his music for many years.
