I've been needing a good portable DVD player with all region support. I really liked the Sony DVP-FX950 which was one of the most expensive ones on Amazon at $140. Unfortunately that version is region locked to NTSC 1 only. You can't even play region free pal on it!
I looked around online for a region free version and it costs about $100 more. Really crazy rip off IMO. After looking around, I went ahead and ordered with www.220-electronics.com since they had it the cheapest at $240 w/free shipping. It took a week for the package to get to my place. Once I eagerly put in a disc, I noticed an issue right away. The loading time was about 90 secs for the DVD. It seemed oddly long for the newest model from Sony. I dealt with it and when the movie played, there were skips/pauses every now and then. I tried it with a 2nd disc and experienced the same thing. I immediately called their customer service to let them know that the product is defective but the guy was so rude to me. He said I would have to send it back and they would need to "examine" it before they would agree to replace it. I asked him how he's going to re-imburse me for the shipping costs and he said they won't. I told him that wasn't acceptable since their product came defective so why do I have to pay more to get a replacement? I also didn't like the whole "you have to prove it's really defective by our standards" policy. I asked to speak with the supervisor or manager and he just put me on indefinite hold. I called back and explained the situation to another person. He told me the same thing. So I packed it up after having it opened for only an hour. I sent it out via UPS ground which cost $15. I really hope they don't take long to process my case but there's nothing I can do at the moment I guess. I'm really upset after being so excited to finally get it. What do you all think? Is this just standard and I'm being a big baby? It's my first time doing business with them so it was disappointing to receive a messed up (expensive) player. Now I'll have to wait 2+ weeks just to maybe get another player... What if they give me some BS that the player was found non-defective? Ah!!! ![]() ![]() Last edited by Mermen79; 12-06-2010 at 08:47 PM. |

Sounds to me that you got ripped off. I would not do business with them again, even if they can fix the player. I usually only shop at Amazon so I don't really have too many issues like this. I hope it gets fixed soon. This is clearly their fault, and you have every right to be upset. You're the customer, and they should deliver a good product, and pay for everything to replace it, or offer you a new one.

I would just return it after this mess. Just based on their website look I would never purchase from them. I also don't see any mention of them via google on ANY forums since 2002 searching 220-electronics, I take that as a red flag personally. I did however find one thing searching their OTHER name and the one that have listed with the BBB "International Video & Electronics":

Sorry to say it, but Bill is right. I'll guarantee you that they either A) tell you nothing is wrong and charge you to re-send the same unit back to you, B) simply return the same unit back to you as a "different" one, or C) actually send you another unit that will perform exactly the same as the original one because they are all POS's.
I think your only recourse will be to file a complaint with your credit card company and hope they reverse the charges (after you see what this place has to say). This is one of those learning experiences we all eventually go through when shopping on the internet. |

Get a jWin portable DVD player. Most jWin DVD players are Region All. I had two regular players that were region all and my folks have a portable that they use on road trips for my little bro and sis. They're region all, I know because I played some my German R2 DVDs in them.

The business is a "mom and pop" business based in Illinois from what I know. They also run a website which I ordered from but I think they mainly operate from the shop.
Yeah, if they give me BS that they player is fine or I get one that has the same issue, I will dispute the charges with my credit card company. I'm so mad since the player isn't cheap at all. What's a jwin portable player? Is the screen quality good? The sony one had a very good image which I liked. Being a BD fan, I'd like the DVD screen to look optimal. p.s. of course I would have ordered from Amazon like I always do, but their players are region locked |

The screen size on the one my folks have is like 6 inches and it's 16:9. They've had it for almost five years now. They got it back in May of 2006 when we were leaving Germany. The next time I go over there, I'll see if I can find it and find the model number.
