I never liked projectors. They dont look black enough. Always too overbright. Gotta live in a dark cave to watch anything from a projector or can only watch it during the night. Looks like the contrast is very low on the silver screen. Not just this setup but for anyone owning a projector. Is it really worth it? Or am I missing something here?

Flowery love seat was a donation when we first moved in and it's a pull out couch so it does serve a purpose. Also it's soooooo heavy. I knew I would catch some flak for that being in the picture. Yeah that is the centre speaker in the dvd rack, it's small but works well....and is dwarfed for the front speakers which stand at 37 inches tall.
Everyone that sees anything on the projector doesn't seem to wanna leave the house, pictures don't really do it justice as I am only using a canon SD500 pocket camera. Movies can be watched with lights on enough to read but obviously there will be some washout. Projector also gives a much larger picture than any plasma or lcd out there, and anything that is in the same size range would be mighty expensive. Have you witnessed a projector setup first hand or going by the pictures that are post on here? Not trying to be a d*$k about it or saying that you are wrong but they really have to be seen to appreciate it. And yes it's better if it's dark, but that's what a cave is inside right? |

You have A great looking Home Theater & the screen shots look great ! I myself love having A PJ & wouldn't want it any other way . Just the size alone makes it more than worth having , Better than any TV you can get . |

I have seen a projector setup at a local Magnolia Home Theater with very very low light in that room. Looking at the price of a $10,000+ Mitsubishi Projector on the ceiling I was thinking "Is this the best picture it can give?" It look very washed out with noticable tiny pixel of the movie. It just gave me the wrong impression when I saw this several times in different stores. In a movie theater its a different story.

One other thing to the OP - gotta love that first screen shot.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I haven't watched Into The Blue on my projector yet, but you've inspired me to bump it up on my list. |

That's A good idea impreza . the darker color on the wall will help with the light reflection off the walls being less noticeable . Also doing something with the ceiling helps tremendously .

Incredibly Impressive Set-Up and Room.
The Projector and Screen produce some of the Finest Images I have seen. Truly Outstanding in Detail,Clarity,Color, and with a level of realism that makes it look as if you are simply looking thru a window into true life. |

Painting has been in the plans for awhile, just gotta find the time to do it. Probably paint the ceiling a slightly lighter shade of grey than the walls. The more I look at the workmanship of the room done by the previous owner the more work it looks like for me!

I've only seen a projection setup that looked good in a retail store once. And that was back in the CRT days. Most are set up horribly.
Your room looks good. I'm sure you've already heard "dark ceiling" advice but I'll spew it again. You're getting a lot of reflected light off the ceiling, especially with the screen mounted so close. A darker ceiling above the screen would help IMHO. Maybe a couple of cheap king size comforters to hide the flowers? I feel your pain re: moving sleeper sofas. Sometimes it's better to get the Sawzall out and just take them away in pieces. Nice work. |

I just have to convince the wife that painting the ceiling a dark color will not make the room dismal and small. The comforter idea might be good, the couch was less than 6 months old when I aquired it from a relative that had passed. Be a shame to cut it up when it has barely been used. Also under the collectables in the corner is wasted space right now, but plans to put in an electric fire place is in the works.

Maybe buy a big chunk of black fabric and tack it up to the ceiling to see how much it helps. That might convince the other half.
Actually I saw where someone built some black cloth covered panels that hung from the ceiling. Looked good. You probably only need four of five feet from the screen to have a major impact on PQ. |
