Default Already some gloating going on...

I don't know if this has already been posted here, but the "other side" has gotten word from CEDIA about a new HD-DVD player from Integra that is supposed to be realeased in 4Q.

It is funny that these are the same people that have regularly made light of the fact the BD has too many high-priced players (which I don't entirely disagree with), but now they a have no problem with a 900.00 player in their line-up.

I guess any additional players that are announced for either side can't be a bad thing. We will see over the next few days what BD has in store.

they should be humble and happy they are still getting movies for their garbage format..

I didn't know Integra would have a $900 MSRP HD DVD player out during the fourth quarter. I know Onkyo has one coming, based on the excellent HD-XA2.

Actually, the Acura integra was a fairly popular entry level sports car in the Acura line here in the US. It was manufactured from 1986 through 2001. It was renamed RSX for their 4th generation line. And yes, in Europe it was called the Honda Integra. The Acura name is used for a luxury line of Honda's for the US market.

I would guess yes

While Integra gear is certainly megashiny, I can't see how this would affect anything. They made it to appeal to the HDers with way too much money (a high percentage I'll wager) and Toshiba is probably at this point offering the spec royalty free and helping in a lot of ways

Come on, if you have $900 to blow on a player, wouldn't you just buy Bluray?

Bbbbbut, cheap players are the mantra of the HD DVD crowd, no? I mean shoot, when the Denon player was announced, the pack of feral fanbois on AVS claimed that it was manifestly unimportant, to put it mildly.

Toshiba and HDDVD dug themselves into a hole with their cheap-player philosphy. No quality CE company is willing to build and sell HDDVD players at toshibas prices, because chances are toshiba is loosing money on every player anyways. Thus only companies willing to make "premium" hddvd players would bother, or else ultra-crappy companies like venturer.

This is likely why dual format players are so much more expensive that buying 2 seperate players. Because companies that make dual-format players arent going to take the loss on the hd-dvd side that Toshiba does.

Think about it, if Toshiba themselves are loosing money on their cheapest HDDVD players, how is venturer going to turn a profit per player? Simple, they're going to be insanely low quality. Say goodbye to the Reon chip for sure, so there goes Ken's statement that "atleast hddvd players make good upconverters".

Ive heard of integra (high end onkyo isnt it?) but ive never seen any, and quite frankly I doubt anyone but audiophiles have heard of them, therefore they will have virtually no effect on the format war, since 1) too few people know of integra 2) too few stores SELL integra and 3) $1100 is far too much money for what surely will be a re-badged toshiba. Think about it, Onkyo will sell rebadged toshs, so integra will surely do the same.
