Canada La horde

Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher's La Horde (2009) has received a preliminary release date: October 26. *The preliminary info I have is that the disc will be English-friendly. Will plan to have a review.

PRE-ORDER:

Official site and trailer:

Stalknslash:
Quote:
Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher’s 2009 LA HORDE is quite possibly one of the finest action films of the year. More than just another Zombie film, this seriously violent, relatively classy French horror comes out with all guns blazing.

The premise is simple; four corrupt coppers decide to take out a group of gangsters who were responsible for the death of one of their colleagues. They track them down to an abandoned block of flats, and after a shambolic attempt to kill the bad guys, it becomes apparent that there are more pressing matters!
The dead are coming back to life and craving human flesh – and it’s clear that if they are to survive, the gangsters and the coppers will need to fight together.

There’s some great realism here - the shouts of ‘we’re all gonna die’ ring true to me anyway! The action is relentless, and the ***** fight between Claude Perron’s Aurore and a female zombie is the best bout of pure savagery I’ve seen in ages, and again, reeks of realism (you wouldn’t mess about would you?). One man’s against-the-odds showdown with the ever increasing horde is a breathtaking bit of madness, and that’s one hell of a predicament he finds himself in... in fact there are more Zombies in some of the scenes in La Horde than in most of the Zombie films I’ve seen put together, the sheer number of them makes them terrifying.

I can’t say much more without spoiling the plot, but La Horde is a well produced, high class, action-packed, Zombie film. Look out for the caretaker played by Alain Figlarz, he’s such a character, and he kicks ass from the minute he appears on screen. The acting across the board is fantastic, and it needed to be because the direction and cinematography are amazingly slick, this is quality stuff, and I hope to see it in DVD shops soon!

I saw this film at both the Mayhem and Abertoir film festivals.

LA HORDE (2009). Directors: Yannick Dahan, Benjamin Rocher. Writers: Arnaud Bordas, Yannick Dahan. Cast: Eriq Ebouaney, Aurélien Recoing, Jo Prestia, Jean-Pierre Martins, Alain Figlarz, Claude Perron, Doudou Masta.

When it comes to French films Alliance releases, the blus have turned out rather nicely. Just look at the blus for Bon Cop Bad Cop, Les 7 Jours du Talion, 5150 Rue des Ormes & The Rocket. However, those are all French-Canadian films...

I'm praying for English subs on the extras (both for me and for the over 65% of Canada that doesn't speak French) but I'm going to guess that this release will be under Alliance Vivafilm and we won't get them...

Fingers crossed for subs - and the extended version too that the UK didn't even get on DVD!

Interesting - the cinematic release was 90min, this is 96 which matches the French Blu-Ray, but Germany got 102min (and no English subs)!

Wonder what the difference is here?

Picked this one up on Halloween day and I don't regret it! Very good mix of the zombie and action genres. Make-up/blood effects are convincing as any I've seen before. Excelent use of limited sets -it all takes place in an abandoned appartement tower, lots and lots of dark corridors and stair cases but never gets tiresome. I give its DP a well deserved pat on the back for this. Colour palette is appropriately muted and full of rich, warm, earthy tones. The story itself is original and engaging. Characters feature an explosive mix of strong and conflicting personalities. Top notch acting by the whole cast, none of wich I remember from any other movie. And to top it off, an ending that has sparked some controversy on this side of the atlantic. Proof, to me at least, that the film makers trusted their guts and instinct instead of using focus groups. I can't applaud this enough. We need more of these directors/producers that dare offer us something different instead of always going after the and-they-lived-happily-ever-after crowd.

Oh, and hello to all the canuks on these boards. I'm new here, based in Montreal. Still have to finish entering my collection. Seeya around, eh?

That's funny, because it was passed uncut by the BBFC. Where's this info from?

Yes, it was passed uncut at '18' in the UK. Also, the review of the UK DVD makes no mention of BBFC cuts.

Ah, felixthecat is referring to the German BD which was apparently cut even at FSK 18. See the Amazon.de reviews.

In answer to what I believe is his question, the Canadian BD is uncut.

Why's he rambling about the UK DVD as well, then?

Its a shame its not on Blu Ray in UK as this very good movie and France is doing very well the last few yrs and longer and they make great ART HOUSE movies etc.If any one has the Canda version can u confirm its uncut please ? also does it have english subs as im not watching some fcked up dubbed version no way lol as its spoils the movie.

It's hard to state if the Canadian BD is "uncut" or not, given that there are a few variants of this movie, unless you've watched or know the contents of some of the other releases. And I use the term uncut loosely, I'd rather call it an extended cut, as f.ex. the UK release isn't censored per se, more like cut by the producers. The deleted bits & pieces are in the bonus materials, likewise in the French release, which is missing one scene that is included in the German release.

That said, I've got the Canadian version, maybe I'll get around to watch it someday.
