Default LG HB405SU - worth it? sound quality good?

It's on sale right now for $199 at my local Source and sale ends 'til 31st. Is this a good deal? I don't want to have to end up buying something that ends up in a satisfactory level of good quality. I don't want it lacking bass. I googled and reviews were mixed-ish to great. I'm hoping someone in this forum has bought one and used one before.

And it doesn't say specifically anywhere other than it being able to play BOTH NTSC and PAL DVDs but is it region free?

Also does it have a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder or something like it?

And I might as well add, how does this compare to Sony's stand alone HTSS370 theater system? It's on sale now too but $100 more than the LG pack.

I'm so mad I'm now dealing with the last-generation of home theater surround sound, dealing with the red and white audio plugs. It's JVC TH-A30 DVD player/audio surround sound receiver and 5 speakers. I thought I could deal with it 'til I found out it can only go Dolby Pro Logic, which isn't audio matrixed into 5.1 surround sound. No good use comes to the left and right surround sound speakers. So I thought might as well upgrade to HD surround sound.
