well what would you expect they are coming out with ps3 80 GB which is available now, plus then there might be like a 100 GB or maybe even a 120 GB but at either rate a 60 GB wont sound so impressive with having a 80 GB at least this is why the 20 GB or 40 GB whatever it was didnt last long

I think the 20 didn't work out because it was missing Wi-Fi and memory readers SD cards and those sony card readers. you got a way better deal to get the 60gig than the 20.

Keep in mind, the 80GB version drops some hardware, so backward compatibility is in software emulation.

I might buy one in the next few days, after CEDIA shakes out. It'll be a 60GB, if Amazon still has them with their 3+5 free BD sale.

The 20gig was an awesome deal and personally the better built machine. It may just be coincidence but anyone that complains about fan noise has a 60gig. Ask every 20gig owner and they will all say it is dead silent even after folding for 24 hours straight. Plus I converted mine to a 120gig still for less than the 60gig at launch.

The 20gig disappeared because Sony wanted it to disappear. They were losing more money on it compared to the 60gig and it was mostly just put out there to show that the PS3 started at a $499 price rather than $599.

Anyway I expect the 80gig to drop to the $499 price as soon as the 60gig really does sell out. That's give them one more conceived price drop by the holiday season. But just to be safe, if you are still on the fence, I would get the 60gig now.

So the 80GB version obviously has 20 GB more, and drops h/w support for backward compatibility.

Does the 80GB use smaller, cooler chips? Any reason to go with the 80GB vice the 60GB (ignoring 20GB)?

It comes with Motorstorm. No, I'm not kidding - that's the only advantage it has.
