Default Onkyo vs Denon

I am in the market for a new receiver. I am comparing the Onkyo (TXNR-708) w/ the Denon (AVR2311-CI). The advisors at Cructchfiled always seem to recommend Denon's over Onkyo for their improved amplification / sound quality. This accurate?

the Onkyo just seems to have more bells and whistles to it for $250 less. Not going to list all the specs here, but just seems for less you get more with the Onkyo. Is the sound that much better from the Denon?

Also, on the video conversion upscaling. I've read the Denon has a really good upscaler for DVD's, how does the Onkyo upscaler compare?

Lastly, on the video conversion to HDMI. i have a DVD/VCR recorder that only has component outputs. Then I have a DVD/CD player that only has component outputs. I also have a blu ray player w/ HDMI output. Do I run the 2 units to the receiver w/ components then only 1 HDMI to the TV? Or since it's components in, I'd have to run 1 set of components to the TV AND a HDMI cable to the TV as well for the bluray? Looked at the back of the receivers, and the way the inputs/outputs are on there, it got me thinking I wonder if I have to run 1 set of components to the TV and 1 set of HDMI.

Thanks for any help!!!!
