Default Buying new blurays

Maybe this is not my place to say anything, but the more I look and read all these posts I began to wonder how do all of you afford to buy almost each and every new bluray that comes out? I'm not rich by any means, but like most of you I want every bluray that comes out, but can't afford it. I have my eyes on the new Jurassic Park trilogy and Cars 2 that I probably will buy. There is also a few more and a few concert blu's I want as well. The Captain America steelbook looks sweet but all of these movies are out of my budget. Just wanted to put this out to see what people think about it.

You just gotta know your limits and search around for the best deals. Everyone's got a different budget and different priorities.

Great another one of theses threads.

1st - Don't buy the discs on the release date
2nd - Search for the best price
3rd - Always buy stuff when it reaches your price range

I collect Blu-rays since mid-2007 and I have around 650 BDs for which I paid around $7,500. Doing the math, I spent around $11,50 for each. If not for the Criterions (which I buy them in the $17,99 - $19,99 price range), my average would be around $9,99.

PS - I'm not rich either. It's a hobby. I only drink socially and I don't smoke, which helps!

True.

I don't buy all the BDs as soon as they come out, I wait for sales and buy what I want.

I only drink at home, beer and coffee. Sure if some people gave up going to Starbucks 2-3 times a day, they'd have lots of extra cash for BDs. I don't have cable TV, so I can justify spending $50-$100 on BDs a month.

Price tracker works wonders but it is an addiction nonetheless.

Great advice right here. I follow those same three as well as 1 more idea. I see you are in the USA, so import. It is possible to find movies you want on sale, cheaper outside the USA.

well, i would say that purchasing a few hundred bucks of blurays doesn't make
anybody rich, but if that's so out of your budget have you considered finding
additional sources of income, extra job, etc?
i would never buy less blus than i want because of budget constraints, so i just have to make more money to finance this addictive lifestyle
if i may ask, how old are you, do you have a job, etc?

check craigslist, people are always getting rid of stuff. Do some trading, buy only movies you like, wait for them to go on sale. sell some plasma, cut grass , walk some dogs, dont drink, dont smoke, get rid of high interest rate credit cards, go to pawn shops, have a garage sale to get some blus, go to second hand stores, just some ideas.

Until I see a thread titled "I spent my rent money on blu's how about you". I'll assume everyone does like I do; allow yourself to buy whatever you can afford and by no means pay MSRP. In the end most of us know we spend too much and it is a bit of an addiction coupled with a rampant case of OCD (ahem, slipcover fanatics). But most people collect or are into something so you can call it what you want. I will say;if you're seriously questioning the money you spend then you're doing it wrong. If it causes you stress or problems of any sort then simply stop buying.

One thing I do is not allow myself to buy another movie until I've watched the ones sitting on my shelf. As you can see by my collection it keeps me in control (for now...)

I've only been buying BDs since the middle of August and I've already got 120 movies including about 6 or 7 that I have ordered. That's a lot of movies. I will be startign to slow down quite a lot after this month. I will be buying Captain America and JP trilogy on the 25th and after that I am only going to buy a handful for the rest of the year with the exception possibly being boxing day.

I think I will only buy new bds on day one if they are "must own" for me and the rest I want will wait till they are $15 or cheaper. Also I won't buy so many movies all in one shot. It'll be one title at a time and only seldom maybe two.

if I was "loaded" I would be pretty much EVERYTHING with the exception of titles that i knew I didn't like. How awesome would it be to have pretty much everything that hit store shelves on your movie racks at home.

Great advice for the OP or anyone, in fact.
Drinking & Smoking are a total waste of time, life, & money.
My advice on credit cards: Never carry around more credit than you can afford to pay off each month.
It's all about establishing priorities to gain fruition.

The biggest mistake is to pre-order, and buy blu-rays on their release date because they'll eventually be on sale later on. Some people must have new releases ASAP, due to their impatience, than rather to wait a few weeks later, and buy them much cheaper.

I imagine a lot of people who frequent this site are black belts at finding deals by this point. I have nearly 400 Blu-rays and the last one I payed full release day price for was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 3 years ago(yes, I loved that movie).

smoking is the worst and i also hardly ever drink, so i agree with you.
however, it represents our opinion. if others enjoy it let them. their health,
their money. although i find smoking to be a sad addiction that causes
cancer, besides the fact the having a piece of burning paper stinks and is
utterly disgusting, drinking socially can sometimes be fun
what i like about spending money on blus is that there is some sort of lasting
value, they can always be sold at least for a few bucks. still there is more
left over it the end than cancer or a bad hangover

I wait for deals. I usually don't buy on day 1 unless the price is very good.

In the DVD days I was still young enough to be living with my parents and most of my disposable income went on DVDs.

Seeing as I bought a flat and live on my own, I have to limit my bluray buying. If I still lived with my parents I would have a massive bluray collection.

I never buy any on day of release like I used to with DVDs. Some I just ask for at Christmas/birthday. Wait long enough and they go down in price very quickly, especially in the UK, use ebay to sell items to make money for bluray buys.

I don't have a multiregion player either, as I can't afford one at the moment. So this limits me too, as i would be buying most Criterions and the Roger Corman collection

yes impatience is a huge factor. however, i am also a big slipsleeve collector and ifi want those, i am sometimes forced to buy early. unless i want damaged ones later on or destroy my nerves by chasing them once the first print editions
run out. given the many posts in the slipsleeve thread, i suppose more people
feel like that.

I never pay the retail price for BDs. The best deals I have come across are Amazon.co.uk. Just ordered Barney's Version, $23.49 at Amazon.com and £7.49 at Amazon.co.uk. The box sets (Alien Anthology) and TV shows (Rome) are priced very well. Warner DigiBook titles are released in cheap Amaray cases, just take a look at the price differences between Midnight Express at Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. Even with shipping UK can be a lot cheaper.
