Default Ps3 "display all" on FAT32 problem

I noticed recently that some of my MP4 files are invisible to the PS3 when browsing the FAT32 external drive. I can use media servers to copy them to the PS3 but my network is much slower than USB.

I don't think this is normal because even a document or spreadsheet shows up when "display ALL" is used. Therefore I think i've found a bug in the PS3 OS.

This only happens with those files?

Because sometimes with the external HDD I use (HP Smartsave) files won't load at all. I'll use display all, open the folder, and it will say nothing is in there (which is of course, untrue). Closing it out, waiting a little bit and then re-opening usually does the trick.

Also if there's a lot of files in a folder, sometimes it just takes a little while to load them all.

Makes no difference if i wait or not. They just don't show at all. It causes a bit of bother. It just means I have to copy those files via media serving and the rest I can copy via USB.

Why not just stream them with PS3 Media Server?

I can, but its slow. The files are 1GB in size each. 20GB over my network takes about an hour at least (I think).

The problem is that I'm concerned something is wrong with my PS3 not recognizing the files. Wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I will check mine later and see if it has changed. I use PS3MS and just watch them that way, without actually copying them to the PS3.
