Default Latest 2 headlines @ HDD pretty much sums it all up

Quote:
CEDIA: Toshiba, CBS to Offer Limited Edition Star Trek "Phaser" HD DVD Remote Control

CEDIA: Pioneer Unveils New Elite Blu-ray Player for October
That just struck me as pretty damned hilarious.

Blu-ray had a big wobble with the Paramount news, but subsequent news just confirms Blu-ray is going to win the format war with relative ease.

What would be funny if the HD-DVD player just stop working. People will freak out about the phaser.

And yeah, it's funny how gimmicky Toshiba and Paramount had become.

what kind of douchebag is going to use a phaser as a remote. i can just see some tosh/para***** loser finally getting a girl into his place. he pours here a glass of wine in his living room where his sh1t hd dvd player is and she says, "whats this?" and its his stupid phaser (not nearly as cool as a lightsaber or blaster) remoter and she walks out.

Don't underestimate Trekies many of you on here may be to young to notice but there are trekkies that are fanatical about everything Star Trek have you heard of or seen some of the conventions they have. They number in the millions worldwide most are of the boomer age and have a large disposable income and will eat that little gimmik up they love all things Star Trek so for them to get an exclusive thing like a remote modeled after the phaser from the original series will actually be a sales boon to the HD DVD side IMHO. Check out these sites for yourself. I mean this is not a small following so don't be suprised if this shows very wel on the sales front.

I'm a little older and grew up with Star Trek. I used to watch the original (re-cast) on a small B/W TV (this was about 1980 and the B/W was in my room) and loved ST:TNG.

I don't doubt that many will jump at it. I like Trek, but I'm in my 30s and more refined. My home doesn't look like a novelty shop. My wife has a framed poster of the Enterprise that lights up (bought in the 90s). I made her hang it in the garage.

Now my best friend, there's someone that would love a phaser remote.

I do believe you'll get a good week or two of sales but after that it will flatten as most people (outside the fans, even some fans) are not going to buy at that "crazy" price!

Plus, you can watch most of the 2.0 shows on local TV.

always wondered what hd-dvd would scrape up from the bottom of the barrel, apparently phaser-remotes and venturer players were there.
anyone else hear this gasping-for-air sound?

Wasn't CEDIA meant to be HD-DVD's big push, what happened?

I guess this is what it's gonna take to get people to double dip on Start Trek releases? I've been duped several times by Paramount into purchasing new releases of Star Trek movies hoping that the audio and video would improve. The transfers sucked on all. HD-DVD can have them. They are happy with 3/5 ratings Universal titles and that's what they'll get with zero competition for Paramount titles. With nothing to compare against (but SD-DVD) they'll go cheap(er).

I am (or was) a HUGE trekkie, but I stopped going to these boards because of all the immature know-it-all 40 y/o virgin trolls.

J6P knows nothing about either of these bits of new news....

but then again...the prices haven't come down to J6P territory yet...
