Just to add to the previous reply, you can also copy it to your PC. You need to input a code (which will be in the box) so that it can only be installed once. If you stream media from your PC to your TV its pretty cool. The digital copy is usually on a separate DVD in the box.

Shame they are usually crippled by DRM.
Is it possible to tell from the box if there is DRM on the digital copy?

Plus if you bought Knight and Day for example you had to download it using itunes, there wasn't even an option to download it to Windows Media Player, and there was me thinking it would be Warner Bros who would do that sort of thing first

Yup, why would they do that!? Just doesn't make any sense at all.

Also, you buy a Hi-Definition film on Blu-Ray, but the Digital Copy is usually only DVD quality.

Well techincally all a digital copy is is a DVD from which you can rip the film, which is why it's only in SD and a number of digital copies are now on DVD.

Well it'll usually be well below DVD quality, the resolution may match (more likely the NTSC 480p standard) but bitrate will obviously have to be lower to reduce it to 1-2GB and they usually lack audio and subtitle options.
I use a freeware encoder called Handbrake on my DVDs, along with Subrip, to have full featured dig copies.

We naturally, of course, but I was just try to put it into perspective as to why digital copies are only SD, without making it too complicated.

I'd love a portable DVD player with a 720x576 resolution. That would kick butt. DC's could get knotted then if I could carry something around the size of a disc with a screen on top. Portable DVD players have never caught up with new screen technology. I'm too old fashioned for this iPod malarkey!

I got a digital copy of the X-Files movie with the blu, and installed it. Worked fine streaming it to my xbox. Then my PC hard drive died, and I had to get a new one. When I came to put the movie on my new drive, it wouldn't work because the code had already been used. I e-mailed Fox and they replied within 48 hours saying this was fine and they had reset my code, and I installed it fine.

Just wanted to share this and say it is worth contacting the company if you have the same problem, I didn't really expect a reply so I was really impressed with their service.

its getting annoying how every mainstream movie lately seems to part of "triple play" package.
I am one who doesnt care for the extra formats, and prefer to buy without. But for past the year or so, there doesnt seem to be any other option.
shoots the price right up.

but proven to be popular, otherwise they wouldnt exist!!!

I think it's just studios trying to market their products to everybody. I prefer the extra value content if there were just Blu versions I'm sure the Triple Plays would go up in price I don't think you'd see cheaper BD only options. When you have a Disney Triple Play and a Double Play the Triple Play is usually more expensive than say a Warner Bros. triple like Inception.

I think that's why we started seeing 1 and 2 disc versions of DVD's, stores charge more for the 2 disc version when there's a 1 disc version available than they do for just 2 disc SE's (which don't have a single disc version available).

I hate it when the DVD with the Blu-ray is advertised for use in the car though! Like that's the only place you'd use it on your cars crappy player?

Sorry to break the thread up a touch, but I don't bother to redeem my DC's. I just let them expire.

I haven't either I don't need to play them in my PC (it plays DVD's) and I don't have a portable player. The expiration dates are a bit mean if you ask me. Like 2 years I have DVD I haven't watched older than that and they haven't exploded Mission Impossible style....
