Default Thinking of finally buying the Bond series on Blu

I don't know if prices will drop any lower on these. They're the lowest I've seen, not counting the 5 buck deal I heard they had a couple of Black Fridays ago.

Should I pull the trigger?

You can't go wrong with James Bond.

If you want them, and have the means to purchase, then why not?

I have the first 2 Volumes, never bought the 3rd. I think they packaged the 3rd volume differently if I'm not mistaken, I remember seeing it in the store and hating it. I don't know why they stopped the volumes, and did away with the special packaging that the first 2 had.

There is no difference between the Best Buy exclusive steelbooks or the regular versions. But I don't think you'll be able to find any of the steelbooks at Best Buy anymore. The only ones that they had on steelbooks were Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Thunderball, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, and Die Another Day. But like I said, a very slim chance you'll find the steelbooks at Best Buy. When the next wave of Bond movies came out on Blu-ray, beginning with Goldfinger, the only way to get them on steelbook was through Amazon. Amazon may still have the steelbooks for those, but I'm not 100% sure.

As far as I know, the current Blus are part of the Ultimate Edition, I guess as far as the special features go. I know they ported over all the special features from the DVD ultimate editions onto the Blu-rays.

Apart from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, I'm waiting on the Bond films because there are no indications of the rest of the films being released and there's a high chance with the 50th Anniversary of the series and Bond 23 in 2012 that all the films will be re-released in one set with different packaging.

So unless you you really want them now in HD, then I'd wait for the reasons I've just stated.

Yep, I'm holding out for one big ultimate box set of some kind...

The Bond series is definitely worth owning on Blu-ray, especially the Sean Connery and Daniel Craig movies currently on Blu-ray. They did a pretty outstanding job on the transfers for the earlier movies.

Casino Royale, Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, and Thunderball are a good starting place for your collection. Although if you want to go with the box sets, go for it.

I read somewhere that Lowery (now DTS) had already done the remaster of the rest of the films, but that due to MGM's financial situation, the pressing and distribution of the last nine were being put on hold. Any truth to that rumor that anyone else has heard?

I'm ordering all the available movies separately from Amazon (with one exception, LALD). The Craig movies I already have on Blu. Craig's chasing Connery down imho as best Bond. Still needs to make a couple more movies, tho. Hopefully they will extend him past his 3 picture deal.

The remasters were done for the Ultimate Edtions in 2006 and have only had a bit of tweaking for the Blu-rays.

The reason they were put on hold is really unknown and I don't think it has anything to do with MGM's finicial situations, which have now thankfully been resolved, because the UE DVDs and Blu-rays were distributed by Fox, so they weren't connected. If anything releasing all the Bond Blu-rays would have helped a bit, but because MGM weren't in charge of the Blu-rays they weren't all released.

Ah, thanks for the info Clone. I didn't know that.

I also ordered Leon: The Professional, The Pink Panther (both at Amazon), and Advent Children (BB). I think that will be the end of Blu purchases for me for a while. Gotta let my CC catch its breath.

That's what I am waiting for as well. I have the box set on DVD that was release a few years back, for now that will do fine for me. I am sure a Blu-ray box set will come along in 2012

I won't get the entire collection but I want to get Spy Who Loved Me, Octo*****, and the four Brosnan films. I have the two Craig films, but am waiting on the special edition of Quantum.
