Default I have an idea for Future Silent Film Blu-ray releases

I noticed that silent films on blu-ray have not been selling very well. I believe I have the perfect solution.

If companies like Kino followed these steps I am sure that old silents like Metropolis could be top sellers.

1. Crop the image so that it fits a 16x9 screen. Nobody wants to see black bars.

2. Colorize the movie. Why watch an old movie in black and white when you can see it in color.

3. Use digital Noise reduction and scrub out all of the visible grain.

4. Get rid of those awful intertitles and dub in some contemporary dialogue.

I think they ideas could really make these old classics even better. Anyone else have any suggestions? Hopefully blu-ray movie manufacturer and studios will take notice.

Seriously???

Most people want to view the film in it's intended original state.

Default Yeah but

Most people would actually like to see the oldies improved.

One other idea that I just thought of would be to speed up the frame rate to make these movies funnier.

+1

Altering pieces of film history is like splashing colored paint on Michaelangelo's David and covering him in a loin coth...it just should not be tampered with!

So far, I have to disagree with some of your ideas. I believe that all films should be released in the original aspect ratios they are shot/ filmed in. If they are to do a colorized version of a silent film, I guess its okay for them to color tilt it if it was intended to be color tilted otherwise I think the colorization would look awkward. If they can find a way to remove gain without the use of DNR, it would be awesome. DNR really removes the finer details of the picture. If they go overboard with it, I'll probably look like the Predator release or the Dragon Ball Z season sets. Number 4 I may agree on due to our age of DVDs and Blu-rays where we can store multiple audio.

This comment here leads me to believe that you are either trolling OR saying ridiculously funny stuff (with a straight face) just to get a reaction.

I am rolling with the latter.

Lets not forget that we can have George Lucas add in extra scenes with Jabba and digitally insert Anakin Skywalkers face right on top of Freder's in Metropolis, and of course he MUST put C3PO in place of that totally unoriginal robot in there.

That (along with all of the aforementioned ideas) should make this film palatable to the ipod generation.

My thoughts exactly. That, or a seriously failed attempt at humor. Either way, this thread needs to be closed before it gets ugly.

Older movies should be.

1) DNR'ed to death.

2) Colourized to death. (make them more colourfull than Up)

3) Voicilized (insert diolog by making new actors do talking and than insert them into the movie. Make people lips in the movie move by digital computer techniques)

4) Croped to 2.4:1 aspect ratio (especially the 3:4 movies) This will help create a blockbuster feeling.

5) Upconverted to 3D.

[Show spoiler]Fail.
