United Kingdom London Blu-Ray stores?

Hi, apologies if I made this on the wrong forums, but I wanted to ask since I will be on London for about a month after July (don't have a specific date yet) if anyone knows some great stores to buy movies?

For imports, theres a terrific shop in Upper St. Martins Lane called 'The Cinema Shop'. They are quite dear, though (usually about £30-35 for a Blu).

Everyone's said them now, really. The Cinema Shop is good for the rarer ones like US releases but WAY more expensive than importing them online. The main HMVs have a huge selection (there are 2 on Oxford Street) and occasionally some good deals (in fact, anything that's not in the sale section, or a new release, is usually ridiculously expensive). And then there's Fopp, which tends to be a bit cheaper than HMV even though it's run by the same company... I usually find it's better for CDs than BDs though.

Of course, Amazon.co.uk, or perhaps HMV.co.uk or Play.co.uk will get you better deals than all of these because they don't pay VAT. It may not be as exciting, but for the best deals I'd order from these sites and get them delivered to where you're staying.

To be honest, from an economic point of view I'm amazed it's survived as long as it has - it was never remotely intended to allow wealthy companies to avoid paying VAT merely by relocating warehouses to Jersey and taking advantage of online ordering systems that simply didn't exist when the VAT exemption was originally granted.
That sucks.

But honestly, if we're talking about DVDs and whatever it's a joke. You expect consumers to go in and pay 35 quid for a Blu-Ray when you can get it for 30% of the price online? Where has this tax gone to anyway? They keep increasing it but don't seem to do anything productive do they?

In fact, HMV are the only surviving b&m store, closing the loophole, if it even is a loophole, is not going to magically restore companies or even help out HMV who are really the closest thing to daylight robbery.

I'm sure Amazon charge tax as it's on my order form etc. Imagine if everything went to it's RRP the entire country would be a ghost town. People would only go out during the sales. If the companies are UK based whats the big deal? Amazon have just opened a new Fulfillment Centre in Swansea perhaps the government wants to close it down already?

I may order some cheap Blu's just incase they jack up the prices....

CeX
London has two stores:
http://uk.webuy.com/stores/store_details.php?id=2
http://uk.webuy.com/stores/store_details.php?id=1

For example, one of your wishlist movie, THE EXORCIST, is selling at one of the London CeX stores for 10 pounds (it's the UK version though).

A word of caution to those visiting these royal shores, be careful if you're asking for directions to that particular store.

Not much of a bargain considering that their discs are all second-hand.

There's only one HMV in Oxford Strret now - the large three floor store between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road.

Slightly off topic but has anyone been to the HMV Birmingham (Pavillions), 5 floors!
