Default Epson R21000 delay

According to Grubert from AVSFORUM the new LCOS (LCD-R) from Epson have been delayed to end of April and nothing is sure. With the CEDIA coming 4 months after (new models annonced there) and with JVC already selling out there DLA 250 model like hot cake, it seem that JVC will have a pretty grond for some months to come because i doubt that Epson will announce new model at Cedia.

I'm actually surprised at what a lot of people are trying to get for their used JVC projectors. There are some folks selling used RS20's for more than I paid for my B-stock warrantied unit that I purchased last June. In fact, some B-stock and used product is asking for more than what the street price of the HD250 was selling for.

I'm wondering if Epson is re-thinking their business strategy in that I doubt they can successfully compete in the low-end market for this flavor of technology, and competing in the higher-end market has them taking on three JVC models and then the Sony models.

I wished I had the money to atleast get a JVC projector.

Epson is (unfortunately) known more for their printers than mid range or high end porjectors. Also seeing them make more expensive projectors may put a sour note on those used to them making cheaper projectors. Remember kids, these new projector are made for people willing to pay for the performance in JVC projectors.

I kind of concerned about the enginerring of the reflective LCD (Arguably LCoS) technology they used to achieve that contrast.

It's their first venture into LCOS, so maybe there's production delay. Epson make most of the LCD panel of projectors (and sell them to Panasonic and the like). But they don't do them anymore. That's why Panasonic don't have a new model right now (Rumored to use the same RLCD aka LCOS as Epson or go DLP with Wheel). Maybe it's the fact that JVC has a 4300$ machine that does 3D and Epson didn't, even the 7000-10000$ model (the biggest one)

Unless if Panasonic does the impossible (make a 3 chip DLP for cheap), the move to DLP seems like an odd move. I'm personally not interested in a single chip projector for my next projector purchase. I'm also am not interested in a low lumen output projector, one of the main reasons I'm interested in a JVC.

Panasonic not releasing a projector with 3D would be more surprising, especially with their promotion of their 3D plasmas.

Yep and it bugs me to no end because the new Epsons were definitely in my short list for a projector purchase.

I've seen the DLA-X3 (RS40) and, while the 3D was impressive, the 2D was not - and it so happens that 99% of my movie viewing will be in 2D. And it is much too big for a non-dedicated room like mine.

The Epson, OTOH, had everything in my want list: better contrast than my Sony VW50, good video processing, reasonable size... if only it was available!

I guess that Epson is having trouble manufacturing its new panels reliably. I wouldn't be surprised if their new models had a very short life and were replaced as early as CEDIA 2011. At any rate, Panasonic is sure to be having something then.

Not to hijack the Epson thread here, but what was it about the RS40 that you didn't find to your liking? How did it compare to the previous RS model line? Hope its not a step backwards for them.

No problem. It just wasn't very "film-like." Smoothness was an issue; no matter how you set the frame interpolation, you couldn't get it right. Also there was some faint noise or PWM dithering like what you used to get on the first plasma TVs.

It was better than, say, an RS10, but not a lot better. If someone asked me what PJ to buy right now I'd said get a JVC HD250.

Me, I've decided to stick with my Sony projector for a while longer and bought a closeout Panasonic plasma for daytime viewing.

Closeout Panasonic for daytime viewing.... check
JVC RS20 for night... check

Yeah I bought that JVC on the big AVS factory overstock closeout right after the RS25 was released for less than half of the retail of the newer RS25. I have not really been a fan of any of the frame interpolation technologies out there, so grabbing the previous years model and forgoing basically just the frame interpolation for half the price was a real no brainer. I keep wondering how that HD250 would compare now to my RS20. No real desire to upgrade at this point either. I'd be more interested in a lens shift memory setting like the Panny has than the frame interpolation stuff. 3D is something I can really wait on. Even in the theater with the expensive three chip dlp projectors I find that I am not impressed. Specifically with what it does with contrast and shadow detail. It seems you have to crank up the brightness, this reduces contrast but then you throw on the glasses and the dark scenes get murky and lose shadow detail.

The RS40's were streeting for $3500, and the non-3D HD250 (based on older panel technology) was streeting for $2500. The RS50 is streeting for about $5500, IIRC.
