USA V/H/S/94 (Shudder Original) - April 19, 2022

The horror film anthology V/H/S/94 will be getting a BD release from Shudder on April 19th. This was one of my favorite movies that I watched in October, so I'm looking forward to picking it up.

A Shudder Original Film, V/H/S/94 is the fourth installment in the hit horror anthology franchise and marks the return of the infamous found footage anthology with segments from franchise alumni Simon Barrett (Séance) and Timo Tjahjanto (May the Devil Take You Too) in addition to acclaimed directors Jennifer Reeder (Knives & Skin), Ryan Prows (Lowlife) and Chloe Okuno (Slut). In V/H/S/94, after the discovery of a mysterious VHS tape, a brutish police swat team launch a high intensity raid on a remote warehouse, only to discover a sinister cult compound whose collection of pre-recorded material uncovers a nightmarish conspiracy.

I can't wait to revisit this (and the whole series) this April. I enjoyed this one a lot as well and found it to be a nice step up from VHS viral. I was hoping for a release in February or March as April is so far away yet, but it at least gives me something to look forward to. Now just show me the pre-order link.

I thought the Avatar is from Argento's Trauma but I haven't seen that movie in well over a decade so my memory is fuzzy (still ordered the VS release though!).

As for V/H/S/94, I'm excited for this and really do hope it's better than Spiral, which I didn't like at all. Big fan of part 2 and enjoyed the first one and am willing to blind buy this based on what I've heard so far, though.

I dont consider '94 to be better than the first two entries but it is much better than Viral was. Have you seen "Southbound"? It's produced by the same folks that make the VHS series and is basically a vhs film without any vhs tapes in it. Its much better than viral as well and felt more like the proper 3rd film in the series after viral went a bit nuts with the concept. I'd rate the franchise as follows personally...

VHS
VHS2
Southbound
VHS '94
VHS Viral.

Part 2 is the best film in the franchise arguably but I found part 1 more memorable hence why it gets top billing. The spin off film Siren isn't bad, but it's also nothing special. I found the original segment in the first vhs film far more effective.

Thanks for the recommendation and reassurance that this is better than Spiral. I forgot about Southbound. I borrowed it from the local library a few years ago but could never find the time to watch it and kept putting it in the backburner until I just forgot about it. I'll see if I can track it down one of these days and maybe watch it this weekend!

I'll be getting this for sure, the wraparound was dumb as hell but I loved The Empty Wake and Timo's segment.

Also, that guy's avatar is from Blood Rage.

IMHO SOUTHBOUND is the best of all these films. It's the only one that I revisit on a regular basis.

The first two V/H/S films were excellent anthologies.

The crazy thing about Viral is that even though it was terrible, I thought Todd Lincoln's Gorgeous Vortex segment was so slick and way more aesthetically stylish than all of Viral that I could see how it did not end up in the final cut of Viral. It was way to smooth and did not fit the V/H/S look. It was the only thing I liked about Viral and you have to watch after the end-credits on the Blu-ray in order to see it.

As for V/H/S/94 I thought it was pretty good, though not as great as the first two in the series but definitely a step up from Viral. I would have to rewatch 94' cause I did not fully pay attention or grasp on what the whole wraparound story was about, was just more focused on each segment.

I didn't care for the wraparound story in '94, it was probably the weakest aspect of the movie for me. I haven't seen the other V/H/S films surprisingly, so I have nothing to compare it against, but I really enjoyed all of the segments in this one, especially Empty Wake, and The Subject.

I loved this one, this segment creeped me out, it was so well done.

The only one I was effy about was the vampire one but it was overall a good horror.

Ordered. This was an easy pre-order even with the currently inflated price.
