Blu-ray Knight

I'm fairly new to the BD scene. I have a VIZIO VBR231 Blu-ray DVD Player and was wondering how does BD Live work exactly? Do I have to be signed onto that particular discs BD Live website when trying to view the extras or what? My player is wireless and I can stream via Netflix and Pandora through it, but when I try to access the BD stuff it gives me that generic message about being connected to the internet, blah, blah. Anyway, wondering if some of you experts can explain it to the newbie? Thanks in advance.
