Thumbs up Rumor: Hack-Proof PS3 In Development

Quote:
An anonymous source has told Everything HQ that Sony is 'already deep in development' of a new PS3 SKU that isn't susceptible to recent system security exploits.

The hack-proof model is said to be a slim PS3 boasting a 300GB hard drive. The report claims it will cost £186.99.

Sony is also said to be planning to cut the price of existing PS3 hardware to £170 in order to help clear out the inventory and make way for the new SKU.

The launch timing of the new model has reportedly not been decided yet, as Sony awaits the conclusion of its legal battle with PS3 hacker George Hotz.
This is great news! A new Hack-proof PS3 with a 300GB HDD for less than £200! I really cant wait for this. I think it might be time to upgrade from my launch 60GB. He's served me well. But he's deserved a well earned retirement

Yep, it's maybe time to give my launch ps3 a well deserved rest and at £187, I could have one in every room........... including the bathroom

Definately!

And at that price it's cheaper than a 3DS! And almost as cheap as a Wii.

It would be nice of them to add 802.11n Wi-Fi and HDMI 1.4, considering the current push of 3D games and BD.

I really hope this is true, as with Steve, above, I'd happily retire my launch day PS3 for a sub £200 one (and yeah, let's get wireless N in there too)

Not bothered about the hard drive size, I have a 320Gb one that I'd swap into it.

While I have serious questions about the validity of the source, the first thought I had when blu-ray.com had that thread about the PS4 about a month ago is that instead of a new system, Sony would release a new hardware modified PS3 to combat the hacking. I hope it's true, and for some reason, I wish it would go even slimmer! Just put a blu-ray drive and a cell processor in a bookcover and let us go at it. I know that's impractical, but it would be cool.

I had the same doubts about the source too.

But with a price drop expected this year anyway, and the fact that the only way to re-instate security is at the hardware level, then I can see this being true.

I don't actually like the design of the slim. I think the main thing that I dislike is the actual finish to the plastic, compared to the original piano black finish it doesnt come close. The other thing that really anoys me is the re designed PS3 logo. Its terrible. And did it really need redesigning, it was what, only 2 and a half years since launch?

But at that price I wouldnt complain. And wireless N would really be apreciated.

I'm gonna probably start taking bets as to how long until it actually does get hacked. Still...that price is quite enticing.

It will definately get hacked at some point. Everything does. But now the hackers have shown Sony knows exactly what not to do.

And dont forget, it took 4 years to crack PS3, and I doubt all Sony will do is install ne root keys. It will probably be totally new, so we could see another 4 year wait.

Either way I'll just be happy to see a price drop.

Good news!

Hack prevention not only protects the company behind the hardware (Sony in this case), but also honest consumers who:
- buy their games
- want to play online in an honest, cheating-free environment

I belong to the above category so, glad to see them take steps and I hope George Hotz will get what's coming to him in court.

I'll keep my slim, but as mentioned before, had they included a 1.4 HDMI, I would've jumped on it as it would allow playback of 1080p 3D couples with lossless audio. Oh well, maybe it'll be for the next evolution of the PS3.

Yeah I really hate the cheaters! MW2 is unplayable right now thanks to server hacks! I got put in a match on Terminal and was geting 500000 points per kill and low gravity was on pluss spawn points were put on the roof and people were using invincibility. also it unlocked every emblem and call sign, which i was collecting the legit way

Trouble is they still have 48million+ hackable PS3s out there, and will still have to keep up the endless firmware updates to counter the hacks.

Phew, just for a brief moment I thought you where serious.
This is why I wouldn't mind a cheaper ps3 just so I could put ye olde black box into storage with all the other classic machines.

Yeah, I want to replace it incase it decides to YLOD. Not that I expect it would. Ive had it on for days on end at times and its still whisper quiet and no issues that Ive noticed but its 4 years old come March 17th, and I'd like to retire it in working order.

It's not just me then, my launch PS3 will go back in its box and join its siblings, 1 & 2, in the roof. My PSP has the same fate when the NGP arrives.

Some tech needs to be kept!

If this turns out to be true, I'll have a new unit to join/replace the 60GB Phatty. I'm not very eager to subject the 60Gigger to a 24-hour Endurance event on Gran Turismo 5, so I think I'll wait and see how this rumor turns out

I'm not quite at the 24hr enduros yet. Jus turned 30 doing the Suzuka enduro. But I think I'm the only person not worried about leaving my ps3 on for 24hrs lol.

Maybe its because I'm used to it being on constantly. Its been on since 8am and i dont expect to switch it of untill about 10-11pm. i've been doing bspec races all day. So I dont think keeping it on for an extra 10 hours when I get to the 24hrs will make much diffrence to the old girl
