United Kingdom Apocalypse Now questions

I'm looking to import Apocalypse Now (Full Disclousure) and have a few questions:

Axelmusic have the US version for £37.31 and the Canadian for £32.63. Does anybody know of any differences?? i.e missing extras or french writing on the covers?

Anybody know any other reliable imports sites that are selling this cheaper?

Do we have a UK release date to save importing in the 1st place?

Thanks in advance.

There were issues with the Canadian one missing a booklet or having the wrong discs or something, I seem to remember? I'm sure it'll be fine now but due to the hassle of something going wrong if you're importing I'd go with the US one to be safe.

No word on a UK release as far as I know, I'm sure it'll happen one day.

Re the canadian version, Movie disc and the Special features discs were printed the wrong way round and booklets were missing. Maple Pictures have now corrected this. Canadian version is identical to US version in every other way.

The Canadian version is not the same because it has "Maple Pictures" all over the box. But yes, apart from that (and the missing booklet and wrong discs) they're the same.

I'd avoid the Canadian one at all costs.

Recommended retailers for the US edition:

http://www.yesasia.com/global/apocal...0-en/info.html

http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/031398126195

http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/pro...ducts_id=49684 (£2 off coupon: TWIT111210)

http://www.dvdworldusa.com/shopexd.asp?id=75035

Those are all reliable and very 'helpful' with no extra charges if you know what I mean.

What a pointless and inflammatory post. Yes it does have Maple Pictures on the box and the US one has Lionsgate. For those not into splitting the proverbial hairs, the canadian discs have the same encode, audio and content as the US ones. They have resolved the disc printing issue. So should you wish to pay more for the US one go ahead and knock yourself out

Wouldnt you be better off ordering it from Amazon US? Current price $37.99 then $5.99 postage, on current exchange rates your looking at about £28 and a handful of pennies.

Just so everyone is aware:

Lionsgate = Maple Pictures

Same Company, different names. It's just like how Sony Pictures is in the US and its Columbia/Tri-star up here.

Nonsense. There's all sorts of legal problems with the name "Lionsgate" in Canada. Lionsgate love themselves and if they could call themselves "Lionsgate" in Canada don't you think they would? Who's ever heard of Maple Pictures? More people now that they ****ed up this release but that's not good advertising.

If you want to really know why LG don't use "LG" in Canada it's not too hard. Google.

Like most Canadian DVD releases I have something else to avoid from Canada.

Nothing against Canada (love it and most of the people) but it's not the same market as the USA.

Maple Pictures Corporation is a Canadian film and home video distribution company. It was formed on April 25, 2005 when Lionsgate spun off its Canadian distribution arm to two former executives of Lionsgate who created Maple Pictures Corp. Maple Pictures is the official distributor for Lionsgate's films and video library throughout Canada. The Releases were distributed by Les Seville Pictures in Quebec and Alliance Films in Toronto.

A contradiction, there.

I have bought a good amount of US discs, not a big boxset like this though granted, but not had a customs charge yet.

Anyone had one importing this?

I got mine ok, as with others I have yet to get charged any duty. I actually went to an HMRC course on importing and exporting recently. Apparently, if the import duty equates to less than £6 (that is dependent on what is being imported, as well as it's value) then they generally wont charge (for that or VAT). At the moment US to UK duty is 3.5% of the value of a blu-ray including shipping and insurance. The rate changes dependent on goods, blu-ray players for example are 13.9%.

To be honest, you'd have to be fairly unlucky to get any charges for blu-rays!

If the item's customs' notification label is 1p (£0.01) over the £18 personal import charge and it's sent outside the EU then you will be hit by charges.

If it's the Royal Mail they nearly always charge as they have a section that catches the packets. Customs have nothing to do with it as the RM want their money and they send the surplus to Customs. Big money in being a broker/carrier. Other couriers may deliver and then send a bill.

Some things always get through of course and the weather may well be helping with that at the moment but I'd not bet on it anytime.
