I'm sure I missed some, add what you think I missed

Think you covered most of them there. Will like to add The Ogre, not strictly a warmovie, but set in wartime. Not as good as the book, but Malkovich almost always make a movie worth watching. It is good, but slightly rough round it's edges.

Some to add:

The Guns of Navarone
Black Book
A Bridge to Far
Where Eagles Dare

Reason for adding = great films that are classics

We Were Soldiers

-there is a Vietnam Vet on this forum who has said it is a very good depiction of the war...I'll definitely take his word for it!

Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith fit the thread better as Star Wars is set after the war

Cross Of Iron. One of Peckinpah's best, brutal and unheroic but with moments of visual beauty.

84 Charlie Mopic. No budget Vietnam classic. The infantry seen up close without bombast or heroics, easily as good as Platoon and Saving Private Ryan, maybe even better

Attack. Robert Aldrich's film showing the danger to soldiers can easily come from their own weak, stupid officers

I think the list and additions cover the genre pretty well but you really do need to add Master and Commander, Waterloo and War and Peace.
